I had to do this also. Ashamed at how many common friends commented supporting his bs post.
He's actually a pretty cool guy in person and never says ignorant things but wow, once he gets on Facebook he completely changes.
The guy who posted on my end is the type of jackwagon who posts about how no one will ever take away his guns, so it was not unexpected I guess. I commented with something along the lines of "Christianity is covered in the following chapters, in a history class the material is covered chronologically and Islam came much earlier than Christianity." No one bothered to even read it apparently because they kept just saying things like ""They" definitely have an agenda they're pushing. America has become a country of religious freedom unless you're a Christian." LOL. It was the same way when I was in high school so....

World religions was a required course at my high school, and I'm kind of surprised no one kicked up a fuss, since this is the same place that ran the AP English teacher out of town with pitchforks because she had her 18-year old seniors read a book with "sexual themes."
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”

? In what way? Christ and the books that comprise the New Testament predate Muhammed and the Qaran. Adam and Abraham are shared by both religions (plus Judaism...obv).
The ACLJ has requested every mention of religion in class hand outs, power point presentations by teachers etc.. in the entire state of TN look for "proof" that children of TN are being indoctrinated by teachers, of whom 95% identify as christians.

We had a trainer for our new reading curriculum (that it being promoted as the answer to the fact that SS/science have been eliminated from elementary schools, so kids are not learning the basic life background knowledge that they need to have an understanding of the world) who warned us that there might be parent/teacher complaints during the part where Islam is studied, but she wanted to assure us it was only being taught for world understanding and not to glorify Islam :/ I hate that she said it. I hate that she might be right.
This came through my feed yesterday. I'm glad I saw this post so I could go look it up. I didn't want to watch it at work, but I wanted to see a video of who MUST be my SIL's bff - they are both in FL after all and share the same ignorance...
note - she sounds smarter and is a lot more rational than my SIL would be... smh
I bet my SIL would forward the video except my brother would put her in check. "Um, wife, arabic numerals are the numbers we use today... it is ok to learn about their origin just like Roman numerals..."

Doh. Welp, either way doesn't a world history class need to cover how each major religion influenced history? I remember taking high school and college level and they both start with Mesopotamia, middle east and work their way to the western world which I guess is what I should have said in the first place

The sixth graders at my son's Catholic school just went on a field trip to the Jewish Community Center, to learn about Sukkot. In all of my high school religion classes, we studied other religions. What the hell is wrong with learning about different cultures/religions/traditions? THIS is what's wrong with society. Fear breeds hate and all that.

They are teaching about Religions in Georgia so of-course the kids are getting homework dealing with Islam. As a result, all the people with questionable English and a lack of teeth are all over the damn news complaining.
I went through K-12 in GA. I can tell you that back in 1997 we had the exact same homework. I grew up in the smallest, most ignorant town - but even they understood you have to learn facts about the world at school. My hometown is full of very fundamental Christians (or was back in the 90s). No one thought we would be accidentally converted to Islam by filling out a worksheet. Not to mention we studied all the world religions, not just Islam. I learned about Taoism, Jainism, Buddhism, Judaism, and even Christianity. The most controversy came during the Christianity unit because students in my class would argue with the teacher over scripture. My SS teacher was also a Baptist preacher.
I think people today are willfully ignorant and that is super depressing.

My cousin who lives in Georgia shared this photo and was all "go Mom, I'd do the same thing!!!." She's always been a box of rocks, but usually not so outright ignorant.
Then again, per Facebook she "likes" 2 books: the Bible and 50 Shades of Gray so...
I always find it odd when I see you talk about your family. Like I can't make sense of you being related to people like that, lol.
"Not gonna lie; I kind of keep expecting you to post one day that you threw down on someone who clearly had no idea that today was NOT THEIR DAY." ~dontcallmeshirley

So, I was taught about world religions in 9th grade (or 10th). Weren't these people? I went to public school. It was a mandatory class (world religion wasn't the only aspect - it covered all sorts of topics), but that was one of the most intriguing units.

I like to think it's just that thanks to social media, we are more likely to be exposed to the willfully ignorant. They get some likes on Facebook and that just encourages them.
