We are going to be stayin one night in Paris this month and neither of us have ever been. I am trying to book a hotel, but I don't even know where to start! If you have been, what area do you recommend staying in?
DD stayed 2 nights at Hotel Campanile Paris 15 in August, wasn't fancy but in a good location near a metro station and the Eiffel Tower. The people were nice and spoke English.
Have you been to Paris before? Are there any must sees you want to do?
When we went, we stayed at Hotel Aviatic St Germaine. Don't let the name fool you. It's in The Montparnasse area. I loved it and the area. We were in walking distance to two metro stops. It's prolly too long to walk for most people, but one day we walked to the Eiffle Tower and over to Arc du Triomphe and Champs de Lysee. Another day we walked to the Catacombs.

I have never been, and want to fit in as much as possible!

we were there for 5 days and didn't have enough time! I wish you luck. It's going to be fun. I loved Paris so much
We stayed at the Hôtel de Lutèce on the Île St. Louis, across from Notre Dame. It was a nice little hotel in a great location – we walked everywhere except Montmarte. Notre Dame and Sainte-Chapelle are right across the bridge, and the Louvre is a short walk away. The Musée d'Orsay, Tour Eiffel, and Arc de Triomphe were more of a hike but the Métro can get you everywhere quickly.
Figure out what your must-do attractions are and then try to book in that arrondissement.
Otherwise I would second the fifth. We stayed there for a week on our honeymoon and it was a good location for getting around by metro, however a longer distance for walking (especially with only one day). It wasn't as expensive as 1, 2, and 3.
I prefer to stay around Boulevard Saint-Germain. Last time I stayed at Hotel Artus, but it's rather expensive. There is also the Westin near Place Vendôme. Have breakfast at the famous Café de Flore (on a corner on Boulevard Saint-Germain), not in your hotel. It's a classic, full of tourists and celebrities but also locals. The croissants are really good, much better than you will have in the hotel.
We stayed at the Hotel Pont Royal in the 7th arr. It was great and in a wonderful location to walk to the Louvre, Musee D'Orsay, and also to get to the river to jump on a hop on/hop off river tour boat (I recommend BatoBus). Have fun! There is so much to see and do in Paris!
