I had a friend whose 8 year old daughter (friend of my oldest daughter) wasn't invited to my 5 year old's birthday party. She told me I shouldn't have put the pictures on FB, because it was hurtful.

No.
What?! This is crazy.
I did have a friend say "Oh, I should have brought my boys" who are WILD to Amelia's 4th princess tea party last weekend. Her daughter is 4, and her boys are 7 and 9. Amelia is in a girls only phase and even told Hunter he was ruining her party when he went to go jump in the bouncy house (she's dramatic, I know). I just responded "Oh, but I don't know if they'd enjoy wearing a princess dress." People are weird about parties/outings.

wait. is this a joke based on that other thread or did this really happen?
Really happened. There's a thread on this phenomenon? I mean, other than this thread?

Similar issue, from the other perspective. link I think what made it seem like you might be making a joke is that the ages are exactly the same.
Ahhh. I now get it. Mine was this summer--miso's post just made me think of it. My upset friend is HM...so I wasn't entirely surprised, but was still like, "No."
