DS is 20 months and just starting to put some words together. SO much of it is not intelligible though.
Tonight before bed we put his new vinyl growth chart on the wall in his room. We measured him, then had him stand in front of it to take a picture. He did really well standing still, which is unusual of course.
Then we did the usual bedtime routine, read some books, started giving hugs. And he was kinda fighting DH, while babbling stuff.
DS: I want cheeeeeese DH: You want cheese? (questioning look in my direction) Me: I think we're hearing him right. Are you hungry DS? DS: No. I want cheese. I want cheeeese.
He finally got out of his dad's arms, ran back to the growth chart, turned to face us, and grinned really big, waiting for us to take more pictures.
Maybe this kind of thing will happen more often now that he's getting vocal. But neither of us had a clue that he meant he wanted to SAY cheese, i.e. have more pictures taken.
BTW, we didn't teach him the 'say cheese' phrase for pictures either. Daycare maybe? Either way, it was the cutest little misunderstanding ever.
My daughter also learned to say cheese somewhere other than home (guessing daycare though I've never heard it there). It is sooo cute! She does a goofy smile when she says it, as opposed to her natural laughing smile.
The first time I took her picture with her cheese face, I texted it to my parents, and my dad asked, "What happened to her smile?"
Mine says cheeshe but as of now she means cheese to eat.
Tonight my husband poured himself a glass of wine. She looked at him and turned to me and said "mama, vyne?" MIL is here and has been trying to decipher DD all day but this phrase was abundantly clear. She thought it was hilarious and she probably also thinks I'm a lush but whatever. He went to pour himself another glass and she was ran over to the wine glasses and was like "MAMA VYNE." My husband had to share some with me and then she looked satisfied.
That's so cute! At least yours is specific. Every other thing out of my ds mouth is "I want that"
And so many of his words sound similar like shoes, juice, choo choos, etc ( the way he says them)
Thanks for reminding me to hang a growth chart.
The 'specific' part is new. And yea, not many of his words sound distinct. "Cheese" is though, probably because he gets it quicker if we understand him ;-)
We had not got around to the growth chart yet b/c of moving. And they're all pretty expensive on Etsy! His old room had a music theme, and we need to re-decorate, but I had to get this when I found it. Should have put it up higher though, whoops. And there are notes and numbers that we still need to add.

They get creative when trying to get their point across. When M was younger he was trying to tell us about a cow. But we were driving so we could hear him very well. After he had repeated himself a handful of times & we had guessed everything but cow he finally said, "Moo!" Then we were like "oh COW!" And we pretty much thought he was a genius for figuring out how to make us understand, lol.
