karinothing I wish my newborn had napped like that. So long as he is eating well (which judging from the schedule you describe he seems to be) I would just let him be. Does he always nap this long? Could be a growth spurt.

He is 10 weeks I feel like this is a lot!
Sounds normal to me. DD would sleep off and on in the morning and then took a 4 or 5 hour nap every afternoon and sleep 12 hrs overnight at that age.

He does have a cold, but he generally he takes a 4 hour nap then another short nap for an hour or so about 2 hours after he wakes. Then goes to bed an hour later.

Cool. His brother was so the opposite so I second guess what is normal.

Oh man I have another question....lol.
For moms w small babies who had trouble gaining (DS just fell off the chart again and is at around the 2nd %) any food suggestions?
DS is tiring of peanut butter and avocado. He always wants foods that are not very caloric like fruits. Any suggestions of how I can make fruit (namely blueberries) more caloric/nutrient dense?
When we first went to one nap it was about 45 mins. She slowly started napping longer and will sleep anywhere from 1.5-2.5 hrs.
Same here. Initially his single nap was very short, like 45 mins. I was all "what have I dooooone?!" But slowly the nap lengthened to 1.5-2.5 hours, where it still is at 3.5 years old.

DS (5 days) has a really stinky umbilical stump. Should I clean it out with rubbing alcohol? I feel like they had us do it for DD when hers got smelly but I kind of forget.

countthestars I would contact your pedi to see what they suggest. They may want you to come in so they can put a little something on it...i think they apply silver nitrate.

Is nursing to sleep horrible? My son is almost 4 months old and that's how I can quickly get him down for the night. My mom was telling me to stop bc I'm creating a bad habit but I really don't mind it since it works so well.

1. When did you stop using the changing pad/table? Not age, but by what milestone? Like, when they could stand unassisted, did you switch to something else? What did you switch to? C's daycare room still uses the changing pad, but he hates it at home. But he can't stand on his own yet, so I don't know what else to do. Changing him on the floor is worse because he just tries to crawl away.

At four months, it's still survival mode. You won't make bad habits at that age. I think we stopped nursing to sleep around 8 months?

That is my thought exactly right now survival. Thanks for the reassurance!
When do things start to fall into a routine-ish? When do you get to that point where you can more or less estimate a "good time for..."?
Not for a while. Starting around 3 months I know she's going to be awake for 1.5 hours between naps but not when she'll take those naps or how long they'll be. She's 4 months and we're still waiting on something resembling a routine.

Nursing was the last thing we did before bed until 14m. I didn't have to break the habit bc eventually E wouldn't fall asleep anymore from it. I would not be worried about it at 4m.
