I switched my son this week. He's 2 years 8 months, 38 1/4"and 38 lbs. he was just about at 1.5" from the top of the shell in his radian, which is the RF height limit for the seat, so I had to turn him. I wasn't planning on turning him yet, but he's tall so I didn't really have a choice. He can no longer sleep in the car, which is a major PITA.

I switched my ds when he was about 27 lbs and 2 years, 3 months. I was having a hard time getting him in the car when I was pregnant and he wasn't very cooperative.
My dd I switched when she was 2 1/2. I'm guessing she was 25 lbs.
I know there are a lot of people on here who keep their kids rear facing for a very long time. My car seats would have allowed it for longer. I don't win the gold star here.
DD was 2 years 9 months and about 37 inches and 38 pounds. Two of her three seats had 36-37 inch max RF heights
Even if I had wanted to keep her RFing longer (if her other 2 seats went to 40 inches/40 pounds), she hit 40 pounds last month so it would have only bought me another 8 months and not even gotten her to 3.5. My kids are big.

He was 30 lbs, 34 inches at 2 yo. We were going on a 4 hour drive and we decided to go for it, he would have lasted longer RFing in a Nextfit but...eh.
Dd1 was 3.5yo, 95%tile-ish in height and around 38lb -close enough that I felt like o had to weigh her all the time to be sure she wasn't over 40. Her height was all leg so she didn't come close to outgrowing by height.
DS was barely 3yo, 99% for height and pushing 40lb.
