Any suggestions? We're using Zarbee's. Doc said to open the freezer or walk outside at night if she's having trouble breathing. Neither of us are getting much sleep. So. tired.
We just went to the ER last night for croup. it sucks. The doc said cough medicine doesn't work because it's more the swelling of the vocal cords causing the problem, not the actual cough. Some kids do better in a hot, humid place (like a steamy bath) and others do better in a cold, dry place (like outside at night). Try either. Also, a cool mist humidifier right next to the bed helps too.
We've had better luck in a hot steamy bathroom than a cool night. If it's really cold, it has helped, but it's not that cold yet. Turn on the shower in your smallest bathroom & sit in there until A) you just about pass out or B) you run out of hot water.
Ditto cool mist humidifier. I'm not sure if it really helps, but at least it makes me feel like I'm doing SOMETHING to help.
Hopefully it passes quickly & she's feeling/sleeping better soon!
DD had croup in early August. The doctor gave her oral steroids (she'll be 3 in December) which helped a ton. But I gave her Motrin, Zarabee's, lots of water, cool mist humidifier (cranked up high) & sitting in a steamy shower. The cough lasted for 2 weeks.
