Haha I had to start the thread to share this. Stella likes to listen to music on my phone. She was asking for a specific song and I couldn't figure out what she was saying, so I just went through them. "No. Hate that. Want Pita!" She finally stopped on REPEATER by Fugazi, then started singing! "One two three Pita!" OMG.

S was so tired last night he refused to eat dinner and fell asleep at 6:45. And slept all night until 7:30. I was a bit freaked he was coming down with something because he was making those uncomfortable noises that they make when they have a fever. But now I'm wondering if maybe it was growing pains.

I have no idea what to do with DD's hair. It's fine and really wavy and she refuses to keep clips in or even go near a ponytail holder, so it's just a big puff ball around her face. It just always looks so messy. (Her preference would be to never even brush it, so she doesn't care.) The waves also make the layers look really scraggly sometimes.
The stylist I take her to talked me out of a pixie cut last time because she was afraid she wouldn't look girly enough. I think I might push it this time. I just don't want it to look bad in our pictures from Disney.

I'm afraid this is going to be my DD"s hair. Mine is very fine & thin, and hers appears to be the same way.
It's super short still (she's 13 months) but it's already going in every direction & sticking up often. I frequently take a wipe or spit to try to get it to lay down! lol

BabyLiu is getting school pictures this week so H showed the kids his pictures from when he was in school last night. She died laughing when he got to his terrible mullet in 6th grade.

Do you use any product in it?
I've used a sea salt spray and the Redken Ringlet stuff I used on my hair. They tended to weigh her hair down more than anything, and it wasn't in a nice way.
My other fear is that if we cut it too short it's going to curl up into a full-blown blonde afro. No cultural appropriation here, please!

Ben missed school pictures and they didn't warn me when make up day was. He's wearing a donkey kong shirt, his hair is standing up in all directions, and he has a smear of schmut on his face.
It's my daughter's 6th birthday today, she will officially turn 6 in 18 minutes. I snuck a small present in her backpack with a card this morning before I left for work. I hope she has a great day today.

My DD2 is obsessed with the song "Puff the Magic Dragon" after they read a book about it and listened to the song in class (no Colorado weed jokes, you degenerates!). But she can only remember the first verse, so she sings over and over about little Jackie Paper bringing string and sealing wax and other fancy stuff.
She took a shower with me last night and we sang the whole damn song multiple times (I had to look up the rest of the lyrics yesterday) and she asked me to sing it again before bed. So she's working on learning the other verses.
It's actually a REALLY SAD SONG. Poor Puff. And it's stuck in my head now.
ETA: Here is her drawing from the reading exercise they did in class, lol.

Happy birthday to your DD!
I start my nanny job tomorrow and I'm a bit worried about keeping the kids amused all day, in addition to general new job worries. The mum is working from home tomorrow and I'm not sure if that's a relief or if it puts more pressure on me.
DS1 got an awesome loft bunk bed with a tent on top. He refuses to sleep in it because it's "for daddy when he gets home". He's been sleeping in my bed (which I'm not exactly complaining about).

My brother bought that for Ben (because of the Colorado weed jokes!) and I hate it! Terrible book, worse song.

Good luck with your new job! I would see what the kids interests are and go from there.

You know what sucks about organizing/planning events and fundraisers for the school. Having to actually attend said fundraisers. I don't mind organizing the thing, I'll make flyers, decorations, coordinate volunteers, but please don't make me put on a bra to go to the stupid thing. I don't like people, and I don't like bras or pants for that matter.
Ungrateful bitchy comment: My SIL who doesn't take care of the two kids she already has is having her 3rd today. I'm jealous and it ain't pretty. To add to it, her sister wanted some spotlight too and announced the gender of her 3rd baby on FB last night as well. And it's a girl, which our failed adoption was. So more jealousy (at least she is a good mom, but damn how easy they all get and stay pregnant). I warned DH last week that I wasn't going to take this well. Now I'm just avoiding FB today.

Yep. We're doing a silent auction and the last thing I want to do is get a babysitter, buy a dress and hang with these people all night. Ugh.
So apparently I unknowingly volunteered myself to be activity coordinator for our preschool class. My son informed me this evening and I got a note from the room mom in his backpack

Babycakes has his first song obsession. It's "lean on" by Major lazer and dj snake or whatever. I used to like it too but now he's so aggressive about it. He literally sings it ALL GODDAMN DAY and even just shouts the chorus at random people we see. I feel like I know how my mom felt during my very serious ace of base phase.
"This prick is asking for someone here to bring him to task Somebody give me some dirt on this vacuous mass so we can at last unmask him I'll pull the trigger on it, someone load the gun and cock it While we were all watching, he got Washington in his pocket."
I told a couple of trusted friends here in town about my pregnancy. Well, one of their kids (don't know which one) told all of Marisa's close friends. I had to talk to their moms (some of whom I'm not close to), and ask them to have their kids not talk about it, since we have not told Natalie or our extended family.
These moms I told all know what happened last time. I told them in confidence, told them we wouldn't be public for quite awhile. I feel so let down, and so mad at myself for trusting them.

I'm getting worried. DS sprained his ankle Saturday afternoon, and still breaks down in tears if he tries to walk on it. FI is going to call a pediatric orthopedics doc in the morning.

Hope it's easily treatable and feeling better quickly!!

Oh man, I hope you're able to get him seen quickly, and it's an easy uncomplicated fix. Poor guy!
pamela, I'm sorry to hear you're having such a rough time. It's completely understandable.

Who would tell their kid a secret? Find out which one and then ask for the mothers PIN code. Steal all her money. That will teach her about secrets. I would be let down too.
All right, decision time: DD has been fighting off a little bit of a cold, no fever, but sniffles and phlegm-ey, and complaining that her throat hurts in the mornings. She usually wakes up between 7 and 7:30, school starts at 9. She woke up at 6 this morning because her throat hurt (still no fever), and after a drink of water went back to sleep. It's currently 8:15am and she's still asleep. Do I just let her sleep in and take her to school late since she doesn't have a fever, or do I keep her home today and let her rest? I feel like she's going to be bouncing off the walls later today if I keep her home, so I'm inclined to send her to school, but if she's sick maybe a day at home resting would be better for her? What say you, oh wise ones?

Pete's Dragon was my favorite movie when I kid. I loved it, but it was sooo sad.
