The cardboard room tore chunks of their drywall out. I either found an article about it or they followed up with the people. So they had to redo all their drywall.
Yep. This is it. This is the one where I was really wtf...I would be furious if someone did that to my bathroom. You'd have to re-drywall the whole thing.
Ugh, the mold and mildew...I'm wheezing just thinking about it.
Can anyone find any pics of well-done rooms? Or did they not exist? All I can really remember are the awful ones, which was pretty much the producers intent.

I remember something with lps as wall decor. I think I liked it, but I reserve the right to change my mind if anyone finds a picture
I thought Frank's country designs were awful - I could never understand why people liked him.
And side-eye to the statement in the article that Ty became a huge star. I mean, where is he now right? I think I saw him on an infomercial recently....

Oh god, which asshole designer did the circus tent? That one pissed me right off too. I'll bet it was Hildi. Doug's were never anyone's cup of tea in terms of design but Hildi always did shot that was just impractical that you would never fucking want in your house.
"This prick is asking for someone here to bring him to task Somebody give me some dirt on this vacuous mass so we can at last unmask him I'll pull the trigger on it, someone load the gun and cock it While we were all watching, he got Washington in his pocket."

I always liked Vern. . but wasn't he fired or something about going beyond the $1000 budget because he'd get furniture and stuff donated for the rooms?
ETA: Or maybe I'm misremembering, I guess he just left?
Yes! And now I wonder wtf I was thinking. He went downhill fast.
We watched so much Trading Spaces (and Changing Rooms and While You Were Out) in college. I honestly think that, crazy hay decor aside, there were a lot of really nice finished rooms on that show. I always wanted Vern to come decorate for me.

I LOVED While You Were Out. It had the dude from 2ge+her in it. Anyone remember that stupid movie? He was hot.

Especially since, if I'm remembering correctly, they didn't glue the flowers - they staple-gunned them in. Thousands of holes in your bathroom's vapor barrier.

Vern's were usually good.
This chick has a whole pinterest board dedicated to his stuff:
He actually had some TP rooms that looked like these styles when he was done.

I remember Changing Rooms (the original British version of the show) having decent designs. But of course us U.S. Americans had to go and take a perfectly nice show and make sure there was enough controversy for tv.
I will say though, the ghastly room designs were often more entertaining than the good ones. lol
Some were okay. I don't remember them all being horrible, and thought it would be fun to be on the show. But as a 19 year old college student, I would have been fine with that LP room.
