NEW YORK -- A Manhattan woman is suing her own nephew after the excited 8-year-old's hug allegedly caused her to fall and break her wrist.
Jennifer Connell testified against Sean Tarala, who is now 12 years old, on Friday in Westport court. Tarala, accompanied by his father, Michael Tarala, appeared confused during a hearing Friday, according to the ctpost. The boy lost his mother, Lisa Tarala, when she died last year.
Connell, a 54-year-old human resources manager, claims Tarala, of Westport, was negligent and careless, and is suing her young relative for a six-figure sum.
The hug happened March 18, 2011 when Connell showed up at the Taralas' Westport home for the boy's birthday. Sean was riding his brand-new red bike when he noticed his aunt, and came running, shouting, "Auntie Jen, Auntie Jen," according to court records.
Connell's 50-pound nephew jumped into her arms, sending the two tumbling to the ground, she testified. At the time, Connell said, she was injured but "it was his birthday party and I didn't want to upset him," according to the paper.
Connell, who doesn't have children of her own, says her life in a third-floor Manhattan walk-up has been "very difficult" since that day.
Her social life has taken a serious hit as well, she says, "I was at a party recently, and it was difficult to hold my hors d'oeuvre plate," Connell said.
Connell is suing her nephew for $127,000, claiming that "a reasonable eight years(sic) old under those circumstances would know or should have known that a forceful greeting such as the one delivered by the defendant to the plaintiff could cause the harms and losses suffered by the plaintiff."

What? She obsv needs that money so she can install a chair lift in her building, so she doesn't have to walk up the stairs anymore or take the pesky elevator w/the other pedestrians.
What kind of reasonable eight year old knows not to hug your aunt because she is likely to fall and break her wrist and be unable to subsequently walk on her hands up to her apartment and therefore sue the kid?
ETA: I'd like to think that I'm a reasonable 30 year old and that's not something I would have or should have known.
This happened FOUR YEARS ago, and the kid's mother since passed?
What an awful human being.
I bet you anything his mother had a life insurance policy and now she's trying to get herself some of it.
When I saw Westport, I thought it was likely the family had $$$ and aunt decided to go after some but the timing with a life insurance policy makes sense.

I'm not excusing her at all, because WTH, but do you think it's he case where her health insurance company is making her go after them. I can't think of the term, but you know when insurance companies will try to assess damage, if it happened on someone else's property.

I'm trying to think of a proper insult that truly encapsulates my disgust and loathing of such a person, and I am coming up lacking. This is rather unusual for me.

If it's not the above, she is awful.
Well, yes, but when interviewed don't you think she might have said so?
And wouldn't that have happened a couple of years ago? Why would the insurance company wait 4 years?

If that were the case they'd be going after the parent's homeowners insurance since it seems like it happened on their property, not the kid.

My go-to is usually, "What the FUCK is wrong with you?!"
So a broken wrist from 4 years ago is causing this woman to be unable to lift a small plate of food? That's a stretch and a half.
I'm surprised she's not wearing a neck brace because the healed wrist causes pain to shoot up her arm and into her neck, which causes migraines and loss of work.
