Would you be using them as-is, or can you take off the rope and whatever frou frou is going on with the seat? (Sorry if this is blasphemy for MCM classics, or whatever)

I'd probably reupholster and maybe look at removing the vinyl string (I think it's vinyl). Asking is $600 though, so maybe I should hold out for something else.

For $600? Pass.
I'd jump all over those for $60. I'd probably consider them up to $100. On CL, in that condition (clearly needing reupholstered and restrung) ... those people are smoking something.
I actually really love those weird MCM chairs. They have lots of personality and yet are basically white so they work with any color scheme.
I just don't see them working in a traditional living room. I know that professional designers will sometimes put a surprising piece of furniture in a room, but that seems like an advanced decorating maneuver.

I kinda love the chairs, with the weird string (although looks like it might be loose in places). I'd recover the seats, but if they're $600, I probably wouldn't pull the trigger.
The wood work and lines of those chairs are gorgeous, but not to your taste. Leave them for someone who will bring them back to their MCM glory. They probably have a tung oil finish and will look off next to your more traditional wood. My parents had a couple of quirky roped pieces from their MCM newlywed days.
Ikea has a couple of small barrel chairs; Tullsta is a transitional style that is almost dainty in scale and about $150 with a slip cover.
dr.girlfriend those are nice chairs but still probably a little too non traditional for the space. I'm having a hard time finding a chair that doesn't look entirely like a dining room chair vs is too bulky and padded. I'll check out the Ikea ones - thanks auntie !
