My work BFF comes back to work this Friday after her 12 weeks of maternity leave. I'd like to get her a little something to welcome her back and make the first day special. It's her second child, so not her first rodeo, and she's used to the whole routine of pumping and such. Mostly I just want to do something nice.
Depending on how my kid () is that morning, I may or may not be in the office before she is. My original idea was to pick her up a muffin/pastry and hot cocoa, but then I may not beat her in and it won't be here when she gets here.
Any other ideas for something small to give as a little welcome back gesture? Or should I just go with my original idea anyway and assume she'll still like it even if she's already started making breakfast or something?
After having DD I went back to work for a little over a month and then I was off again for summer. For that first day back DH sent me flowers and it was so unexpected and totally brightened up my day. I felt like crap with my PP body so personally I would tend to avoid treats unless you really know how she's doing with all that. The flowers sat on my desk for days and every time I looked at them they made me happy. You don't have to have them delivered; just bring a bouquet (and vase if your office doesn't have them there) in for her with a nice card and/or a $5 GC to Caribou or something close by.

I came back from leave to a cute "welcome back!" sign on my door and a small bunch of flowers from my boss. It was really sweet, and it made it a little easier to be back here. If you can swing it, taking her out for lunch (or a post lunch snack) would be a nice idea, too.
On my first day back, my team brought in breakfast, got me card and flowers, and printed/framed a few photos from my Facebook of me and my kids for my desk. It was the sweetest gesture.
