Just sitting here wondering how far the right/GOP would come unglued.
Look at all the non-sense they've thrown at Obama. Multiply that by the deep-seated hatred of the Clintons & their sexist attitudes in general.
I find it hard to believe it wouldn't almost look like WW3 around here... I guess a lot of it would actually depend on Congress & if Dems can control that and actually get some legislation to her.
What can/could the Republicans do to oppose Hillary if she's elected? Other than just throw temper-tantrums, continue their useless Congressional inquiries into every perceived wrong, and generally make her life complicated from a PR/publicity/optics angle?

The thing is, that we've had "no drama obama" really. Although right-wing media is a disaster & always has some conspiracy to freak out about, there hasn't been anything major that has stuck to Obama or that really caused him any issues. The Benghazi thing could have been, but they'd rather pin that in HRC. There were some minor bumps & drama with some of the race issues, but those generally went away pretty quickly. I have no doubt that HRC would bring some more substantive drama/scandals to the white house.
So this is kind of convoluted thinking, but there are definitely times when I worry that electing HRC to the Presidency could further the decline for women's rights in this country because of all of the backlash we are sure to see. Every.single.thing she does is going to be scrutinized to high heaven and anything imperfect is going to be held up as exemplifying why women aren't good enough.
And I say this as someone who wants her to be President and who will vote for her.

That's what I was referring to in teh general sexism comment. Just in the way that Obama's presidency has (seemingly) put race issues back in the spotlight or brought out all the crazy racists in that you see them more now ( Maybe it's just b/c of facebook??), I bet it will bring up some gender equality issues & we'll find out how many people are sexist- although I don't think the sexism will even come close to the gross, ugly shit we see WRT to race.
We will need a counter on how many times we hear "Well, a man would never do that / act that way....".
I seE her as one term due to many things, as much as I hate to say it, age and the trials of her being a lightning rod. In some eays, she can go all "eat a bag, Boehner or McConnell. " The email thing, which should be a huge weak point, was overlooked last night. The Ds became r like in circling the wagons around one of their own. It will be interesting. I do hope she can do stuff for the poor and keep us out of war (my conce over her).

It is way too early to predict terms. Â It would depend on what she does in her first term, the economy, who she's up against, what happens to the Republicans in the meantime, etc.
Plus, you know, she needs to win the primary and general first.
this is aN "if she wins" thread. It's all about predictions
I already got mansplained that the ONLY reason people would vote for Hillary is because they want to vote for the first female president. I mean, SHE HAS CHANGED HER VOTE ON SEVERAL ISSUES! (Unlike ANY of the male politicians in the world.) And this was by a supposed feminist liberal. LOL. Delete.
It does make me sad that the subtle sexism that people pretend doesn't exist is going to become more overt. I hate that I am going to see this in people I once respected. BUT, I would rather know about it. I think...
Nah life will go on. It always does. People were upset after both Bush elections and then later with Obama's but they (mostly) got over it. You don't even usually hear that many people complaining anymore that Gore was the rightful president in 2000

I HATE that it's necessary to like your comment. Why in the blue FUCK do people think it's acceptable for women to be a second class citizen because of their vagina? The "big government is the devil, except let me timely you what to do with your uterus!" Argument boggles my mind!
Honestly, I think the right will do what they did to Bill Clinton and dig and dig and dig to find something on her while she is President. I think this is different from the "our entire goal is to make sure that Obama is not elected to a second term" that occurred. There will be a well funded and concerted effort to destroy her (and Bill) and I think misogyny will be out of control. I was thinking this morning that I think she is someone who can really deal with the BS that will come her way from being the first woman president given what has been thrown her way since 1992. Her path to running for president is much different than say, Carly Fiorina, which I believe will help her deal with the BS. (Not to say Fiorina could not, but that Hillary has years of experience of dealing with it in the political spectrum).

Is it sad that I'm now more interested in what Bill Clinton in the White House would look like? Would he be there? Would a close family friend or Chelsea be asked to serve in the first lady-type capacity.
Bill is great but I don't see him tending the veggie garden or telling kids to do jumping jacks.

(I know this is all hypothetical) I wished that our 1st female POTUS wouldn't ride in with all this baggage. Maybe that's an impossible wish & the only way for a woman (to currently) get to the top. I feel like there are 2 separate issues - being a female will make one set of issues & things for people to freak out about, but being a Clinton (with all their history & quasi-scandals) will also bring another set of issues & more fuel to the fire. I feel like Obama had some baggage (Rev Wright thing??) but it mostly went away & he didn't really create anymore while in office either.

oh interesting....lol
I wonder if HRC will still be expected to do these things, since "It's woman's work" after all...
I imagine he could still do some of the PR stops & stuff. But I forgot what a big circus having him around will be. He's been pretty far under the radar so far. I think they are worried about his work & ties with the Clinton Foundation.

I think it's pretty cool. Being a former president himself, I could see him choosing a substantive policy issue to focus on (2 for the price of 1 ). Which could be cool for the position in general and move it away from the veggie garden, jumping jack expectations you are referring to.

I think Obama has had it way harder than a women as POTUS would have it. The birth certificate, the racist political cartoons, the monkey jokes, the total disrespect is unparalleled (and sad) for any other president or presidential candidate. I just don't think HRC will be as much of a target as Barrack and Michelle have been.

Maybe it's time to redefine the first lady/man's duties. Plus we've seen Bill in running shorts for years, he can jumping/jack with kids just fine. Let's keep in mind that Michelle has done WAY more than jumping jacks with kids.

He can just move Clinton Foundation operations into the WH.
But seriously, I see him tackling something like poverty and how it impacts kids. Every First Spouse has their pick of a wide range of causes so he isn't beholden to obesity or literacy. He'll be there. Chelsea can man the fort in NYC.

Yes, I'm sure people will expect HRC to garden. And fire the chef and housekeepers.

haha, can you picture the look on her face the first time someone asked her? I can't even imagine someone being willing to approach her about something so sexist. I highly, highly doubt it.

I actually think Bill will be the best first "First Gentleman of the House." (Is that the male First Lady? First Man? I don't know.) He has been pretty supportive of Hillary up to now. And he has always been kind of laid back "I've smoked pot" fun uncle in a way. I could see him reading to kids and having his charity and stuff. The gardening? Meh, they can pay someone for that.

I can totally see some of the wing nut flipping out if/when she doesn't do these "woman jobs"

I mean, yeah you're always going to have nut jobs out there (like the people who question whether President Obama is really an American or not) but they are a tiny (though vocal) minority. You just have to ignore them and KOKO. I doubt HRC will give that kind of sexist BS more than two seconds of her time as president, if that.
I wonder if having a first gentleman would mean that men everywhere would open doors for ladies and pick up the dinner tab?
Also, I seriously wonder if he would be able to tackle more serious issues and get more traction for them as first gentleman than first ladies have been able to do?
I don't know. Of course, Bill Clinton can do that regardless of HRC. But would HRC's folks want that....I hate to say.... "distraction" coming out of the WH? Even if Bill were kicking butt and really advancing some causes, I wonder if the WH folks would be okay with him acting as a lone wolf or if they would expect him to sort of fall in line and report to HRC's people. KWIM?
I think the Rs are absolutely shitting their pants that Hilary will become POTUS. They could play a bunch of childish tricks with Obama, and for 6 years the dude just wandered through the door with the bucket of water balanced on it. He has fast reflexes, so he rarely got wet...but HRC? She will make sure that bucket falls on the people who put it there, and is vindictive enough that the bucket may well give a few concussion.
This is my favourite thing about her winning, to be honest. I loved Obama, but both his situation (first black press) and his demeanour, have meant that he never really punched back in a satisfactory way. At least for me. Sure, he got stuff done, and I don't think he could do it any other way, but still..I have often longed for him to come out swinging rather than winning on points. HRC will kick ass.
So yeah, I think the Rs are close to implosion anyway. Loss of the White House yet again will cause incredible stress. And HRC will gleefully add weight to the issue. And it will be a good thing - the sooner the Rs become an actual party again instead of a bunch of nut bags, the better for everyone, and of the USA.

What on earth are you quoting here? No one said a thing about her being second class. i am confused here.
