There's been a few Chicago food posts recently so I'm sure someone can link those for recs. Pizza is always good in my book.
For things to do, an architectural boat tour would be fun. There's always Navy Pier, Lincoln Park Zoo (free), North Ave Beach, The Bean at Millenium Park, going up the Sears Tower or drinks on top of the Hancock. If she's into baseball, she might be able to catch a game. Even just going to Wrigley/Wrigleyville can be fun.

::lurker popping in::
The Bucktown Art Fair is this weekend as well, and so is the Greektown Festival. Both are great.
There so many good restaurants in Chicago - some of my favorites are Japonais (sushi/Asian fusion), Hubbard Inn, Hub 51, Paris Club, Noelcotte (sp?), Rise (sushi), Coast (sushi)...there are just so many.
I think they have a Genghis Khan exhibit at the History Museum, and there is a cool jellyfish exhibit at Shedd Aquarium (we practically live there with the twins). Millenium Park is great and I second the architectural boat tours - they are really interesting and it's supposed to be nice this weekend which is a plus.
ETA - reading comp fail...I thought you meant this weekend. Next weekend is the Polish festival which is awesome but a ways out of the city. I think there are quite a few street festivals labor day weekend (she can just Google "Chicago street festivals")
