QOTD: yep, I like scary books in October. Last year I freaked myself out with Pet Sematary. I don't really have a favorite; I like to read something new every year.
I just finished Modern Romance. I might start Go Set A Watchman next.
QOTD: Sometimes. I'm not too into scary books, but I've read som of Stephen King's less-horror-centric books. I also really like Dracula! I've read Anne Rice (should do it again, I loved her stuff when I was in college). Harry Potter would probably be good this time of year.
I'm finishing up Succubus Blues by Richelle Mead. I'm enjoying it. It's suitably fluffy with a little mystery thrown in. The series is supposed to be pretty sexy, but it's kind of meh to me in that department (I think I'm spoiled by the Black Dagger Brotherhood.) The story is fun, though. I finished reading the 2nd book in the Parasol Protectorate series by Gail Carriger. That's a fun series, too! Vampires, werewolves, and preternaturals in an alternate Victorian universe. A bit of mystery and some steampunk technology. Again, fun October reads.
QOTW: I do not like scary books. I like vampire/werewolves/ghost books but nothing that's actually terrifying. Those books would be in the freezer before I got through the first chapter.

I'm reading 1984. I've never read anything by Orwell. I'm not sure this was the best one to start with. But then again, I'm not particularly fond of dystopian novels in general.
QOTW: Nope. I don't read scary things, and I don't really co-ordinate my reading with the seasons.
I feel like I don't even deserve to post in these threads anymore because I've been terrible about reading. I'm still on Crazy Rich Asians. So far it's pretty funny.
QOTD: I love scary stories and don't restrict myself to October. If anyone has recs for good quality scary stuff, pass them along!
This past week I just finished Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore, and The Martian. They were both good, and I enjoyed them.
I haven't started it yet, but next up is Night Road, for one of my book clubs. I don't really know what it it's about, just that I need to finish it by Thursday.
QOTW: I don't seek out scary books this time of year, and mostly my "scary" books are Stephen King, which I think is pretty tame, but Night Film that I finished last week(ish) was very eerie and high intensity. I just put House of Leaves on my list, but I haven't checked my library for it yet, and I've got a bunch other stuff in my reading queue already, so it will be a while before I get to it.
I am reading for Quiet for book club, I just want to read novels, this feels like a textbook. I will get it through it though - it has been highly praised by people I trust, just not what I am in the mood for.
QOTW: nothing scary. The only time I read seasonally appropriate books is at Christmas. And then only one or two.
I just finished Lisa See's Valley of Amazement. It was good. I had pulled Octavia Butler's Parable of the Sower off the shelf for my next read, but now I'm wondering if I should read Salem's Lot instead in honor of Halloween.
I also just finished The Thorn Birds on audiobook. Really enjoyed it.
I just finished listening to Torch by Cheryl Strayed and didn't really like it. Great writing, story dragged. I am reading The Last Anniversary by Liane Moriarty and am really liking it so far.
QOTW: I usually do try to read a scary/horror book this time of year. My all time favorite is IT by Stephen King.
I'm a lurker, but yes - I love to read scary/suspenseful books in October! So far this month I have read The Shining Girls, Broken Monsters, and (currently) The Kind Worth Kiling.

I just finished All The Light We Cannot See, I did not really like it. It was just okay. I have just started An Unlikely Event. I do not like to read scary books. Amityville Horror was terrifying when I read it years ago.

What didn't you like about it? You are the only person I know who didn't like it so I am interested to hear why!

I guess, I liked the story itself but found it hard to follow. It seemed so choppy, with going between the characters and the time frames. I have questions that never got answered.
