Have you heard of this thing called "manflu"? Apparently men are way more likely to call in sick with a cold than women. True or myth?
There seems to be a lot of manflu going around lately, but we have an open floor plan office so I think that's part of why people stay home. I could power through with dayquil and kleenex or I could ... not run the risk of getting my coworkers sick.

It really depends on how my voice is affected. If I sound really bad and nasally I stay home and take a sick day (which qualifies as a PTO day), because I have to talk on the phone A LOT at work. It really makes my job harder/impossible if I can't speak clearly.
In the last 4 yrs I have only been sick from allergies, stuffed up and all that jazz. I deal with it and go to work. Dh on the other hand stays home at the small sign of a scratchy throat.
H doesn't have the option of staying home, pretty much ever. And he's not likely to take a day off even if he could.
I on the other hand will stay home because a) I have to take the bus, which is just miserable when you don't feel well and b) I determine my own schedule as a student, so I can do what I want

I have to stay home when I'm sick because I work in a doctor's office. I can't risk getting my already sick patients (and those at risk - infants and elderly) sick(er). Plus, my coworkers wouldn't appreciate it if I got them sick, either.
I basically always work from home when I'm sick. We'll call each other out on it too if you don't. I hate it when people come into work sick.
This is me exactly. With my job I have the ability to work from home. If I'm really not feeling good I will take the day off with PTO and just sleep all day.
It really bugs me when people come into work with snot running and hacking and all that. Don't get me sick!
H will stay home at the mere thinking that he may be possibly getting sick. He is a huge baby when he's sick too. Like, he thinks he's going to die from the sniffles.
I'll stay home if I feel really yuck, or hacking up stuff. I don't have the option of working from home. I do go in if I have a slight cold... nothing horrible.
My biggest pet peeve is people coming into the office sick. Which just gets me sick. And I get mad. Especially since our office is so flexible about working from home and such. Ugh..
If I were allowed to work from home I would in a heartbeat. But it depends on how the cold is affecting me. If my nose won't stop running and I can't stop coughing I would probably stay home. If it is just making me feel a little down and out but with no apparent symptoms I would go to work.
the only time i take a sick day is when i'm falling over dying. i would rather abuse my sick days as use them as "mental health" days for when i'd rather have a day off to enjoy myself. i figure, i'm miserable at work, anyways, what's another cough......but..i don't get sick very often, either, more than a sore throat or something.
