We've watched this several times...It does kind of suck you in! I kind of like their accents reminds me a little of how some of the locals talked where I went to college - ha ha
Ditto, on both accounts. Especially when the girl decided to drop out of high school and her mom was "so proud" of her.
I hope she goes to school too. I felt that if she was curious about the world then she should be able to form her own opinions.
I agree. They should be allowed to have their version of a rumspringa (sp?) like the Amish. It makes me so sad to see these women forced to quit going to school. Like Claudia said when you drop out at 8th grade you don't have much knowledge. I read that the women make all the clothes & rugs by hand in addition to the cooking & cleaning.
Tonight's episode makes me wonder why Bertha's husband committed suicide.
Lurker here. I live in a state with a huge hutterite population. I'm not originally from here (H is military). I work in a clinic where a lot of them are patients. My experience with them are they are nice enough, but kind of pushy and overbearing at times. They have the.reputation of being kind of cheap ( constantly asking for med samples they aren't on, or asking other patients in our waiting room for money). Other than seeing them in the office, I havent really interacted with them. Depending on who you ask, the locals all seem to have a different opinion of them. They have very thick German accents and I have a hard time understanding some of them. Honestly, some of the men creep me out a little when I'm in the room getting vitals on them.
Edited because my tablet keeps posting before I'm done.
