So DD1 threw up in the middle of the night. I know officially she should stay home b/c 24 hours. But do you still follow that when know it was a fluke not a virus, KWIM?
I feel bad b/c she's totally fine now and is so sad to miss school. But I'm sure I should keep her home. Ironically, if she stays home she has to go to the doctor's with me for DS.

How do you know it was a fluke? I usually follow the rule unless I know for sure. Like the time DD ate like 4 slices of pizza and then jumped around and then threw up LOL.
And sorry I am new here, hope it's ok that I just jump in
I'd look at their behavior. Last week dd1 puked overnight, no fever, no explanation and seemed fine. Until we walked into daycare and she puked again.
Friday night dd2 puked, looked and acted fine, we went about our day and she just was a lot calmer and chose quieter things to do. I would have probably kept her home from school because she talks too much, but we still went to church and she went to her art class.

I used to keep home 24 hours post vomit with no exceptions, but Jukia is prone to vomiting if she has too much sugar. Now that I know the difference I will send her if I'm sure that was the cause. Before I realized that was going on she unnecessarily missed school several times.
I know you already decided, but allow me to share my story...Saturday we went to a bday party for good friends who we don't see often (they live 2 hours away). G went immediately into the bouncer and bounced like a mad man. He proceeded to barf (luckily he made it out of the bouncer) all the parents were whispering to the host " you think he's contagious??" And she was like no look he's fine! It was just because its hot and he was bouncing. Nanda wouldn't bring a sick kid 2 hours to a party. He did barf again, but was fine right after so we figure fluke! He was totally fine all day Sunday. Yep barfed at school Monday morning. Oops. I didn't tell my friend. I realize that may make me awful.
I personally wouldn't send them. I'd keep them home and let them rest. I'd hate to have someone else deal with my sick kid on the chance it wasn't a fluke. My mom once sent me to school thinking it was just a one time thing. It wasn't. I vomited in class, and still embarrassed by it.

I think it was what she ate last night at church, lots of treats right before bed. She's thrown up in the middle of the night before and not actually been sick sick, but it's been awhile.
Jack & I had a virus over the weekend but 4 days is a long incubation period for a stomach bug.

In that case Inwould have sent. I'm very careful about potential bugs, but know how to tell bug versus too many treats.
Barfing=do not go to school! Often kids seem fine, but then puke again later.
Unless it's a special, special case, like you KNOW the kid just got carsick or something. Eating treats I would not think can necessarily be blamed for the puking, unless the kid has a history or puking after eating treats.
Keep her home. You have no way of knowing why she vomited (unless it was a cough or something - even then, if she's coughing so hard that she's throwing up, a day home would be good anyway).
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
I keep home because I am paranoid. On a complete side note, I can't tell you how relieved I am to hear that y'all have kids that have randomly thrown up in the middle of the night. DD1 has done it twice (once I know was because she got too hot that day and ate nothing but crap at a party we were at), but DS has never done it. So, it kind of freaked me out.
