Honestly, I want it to pass because I've never had marijuana before, and I want to try it. I never will try it if it's illegal, I would be super paranoid.
From the article-
Opponents of legalization say it would lead to more abuse of the drug, including by young people, and that underground sales would continue.
"There will always be a black market. That's been proven with cigarettes with the tobacco industry," said Calvina Fay, head of the Florida-based Drug Free America Foundation. "Even though tobacco is legal and it's regulated, there's still a huge global black market."
Yes there will be a black market, but there wouldn't be people crowding the prisons for being arrested for smoking or carrying the drug. IMO comparing it to cigarettes seems silly and the same could be said about alcohol, yet that is legal. It just doesn't seem like a logical argument. It could just be me though.
i'm undecided. somebody convince me one way or the other. i very heavily lean toward nay, but that's because i grew up with the stigma that it's bad...but i'm not married to the idea. i understand general pros and cons, so don't tell me "oh we can tax it!", because that's obvious . get into deeper debates to convince me plz.
At the risk of asking a really dumb question... who the hell is supporting the black market for cigarettes? I do not know anyone who is buying cigarettes on the black market (to my knowledge). It wasn't even like I heard about this when we were underage. If you wanted cigarettes, it did not seem very hard to get them. (Note: I cannot confirm this because I have never tried a cigarette or pot, and I have zero interest in doing so, but it seemed like no one in my high school had a hard time getting cigarettes if they wanted them.)
I don't know about here, but I know that US brand cigarettes are counterfeited and sold on the black market in Asia.
I don't have any interest in trying it, but I think it should be legalized. Use it as a tax revenue gold mine and use gov resources for bigger problems.
I will add that I'm for legalizing it because it's no worse that the other things we have like cigarettes and alcohol (both of which are MUCH more dangerous in their own respect). I've never tried it and have no plans to, but I agree that police etc. probably do waste too much time and effort on something that IMO is not that serious.
