i've seen this pop up on my feed from, like, a dozen people:

I am participating in a Secret Sister gift exchange. I need at least 6 ladies or more who would like to participate . You only have to send a gift worth $10 to one person, and you will receive 36 in return. ? It's in the spirit of giving and supposed to be fun! If you're interested let me know. Location doesn't matter. I'm excited! Who doesn't love gifts or mail??

WTF?  maybe i'm being all scrooge-like, but is this some lame ass chain letter-esque shit or what?

Know what I really really really don't want? 36 10.00 gifts. WTF is a 10.00 gift? 2 chocolate bars? 1 bottle of okay wine from Trader Joes? a pair of gloves? a crappy candle? a nail polish? a lotion? 

I mean I don't want 36 STRANGERS sending me random crap. Those are the NICEST 10 dollar gifts I can think of. Most likely it will all be dollar store shit with fake glitter that takes up room and needs to be dusted.

I get the kids books ones, too...usually complete with a guilt trip about how you should definitely participate, or else some kid is sitting and wondering why he/she didn't get any books...and that's just not fair to a kid! At least most of my friends will ask if I want to receive the letter. Answer is always no.

It was really 36 pairs or something but I never participated. I am pretty sure you're supposed to mail new ones, but you had to include your panty size in the email as if just mailing panties wasn't bad enough.

I participated in a panty one too. Sent mine out, never got any. Boo. But I also remember doing this with postcards back in the 80s as a kid, and I did get quite a few of those in the mail. I guess we were all a lot more bored and willing to write to strangers on postcards before the Internet.
