I am going to call them today because I obviously need help. There is a delivery charge of $100, so we obviously already pay too much as a rule, but I know other people arent paying this much or elect in a house would be $1000s.
Wow. Check your usage against previous months and against your meter. I assume your bills will have the same information as ours, including the meter reading. Every time we have had an unusually high bill it's been bc the power company did estimated readings that month. We check our meter and realize they estimated way high. The next month we get really low bill bc we had essentially pre-paid for some of our usage.
Depends, if you have A/C. My bill is always around 200 since everything in the house is on electric, including our well, so factor that in. Its all relative though how your house is setup. With A/C going, its around 400 easy..hence why we don't have it.
Everything in my 3 bedroom, 2 bath house is electric and we've been running our AC non stop...we still only average $130 on a high month. I'd call your company and find out whats going on.
Holy crap!!! Our house is 2400+ sq ft and we're in Fl so we always have the AC on and it's usually $150-$185. I would shit bricks if I got a bill for $500 (or even 250+)!
Don't forget that July was hellish hot this year in Ontario and you were home all day every day where other years you would have been at work, this would make a huge difference.
Just to clarify, elec is high here. It is on the news all the time. But $500 is with my government help -$50. Then again, the tax was ~$50.
Yes, when I lived in my 850 sqft 2 bedroom bungalow I was on equal payments of $380 per month (all electric heat/air) and that was 2 years ago, I'd hate to see how much it would cost now.

This, we can hit $150 in the winter if it is too cold and the aux heat runs instead of the heat pump. With AC set at 70-72 for most of the day.
Are you on a budget billing system that has a catch up month? Are you on a commercial plan vs a residential by accident? On some other plan that is time controlled ( we can get a discount to use off peak, but pay a premium for peak use)
I once lived in a small apartment that had high electric bills (nothing like yours though). I called to complain and figured out that , duh, we had an electric water heater! That really made the cost go up.

We do have our own water thing and we are electric water heated.

I live in the Toronto area too but in a 3 bed house and our last hydro bill was $164 for 2 months. That also includes water. We have been running our AC a ton so I thought it was going to be much higher. You should get your bill checked out. Does it include water?

That sounds ridiculous. We live in a 3/2, all electric appliances, in the Texas heat, and our utility bill (including electric, water, trash, recycling, sewer & drainage) was only $173 for the month of July.
