Here's the link for anyone who wanted it. If you missed my earlier post, I will copy and paste my facebook post below. Thank you again to everyone who offered to donate books. Oh, and PDQ since it has my real last name, I will DD later.
The school in which I teach is an inner-city school that lacks many important resources -- like a library. My students have no school library and many are not able to get books at home. Our classroom library is the only source of reading material they have. This would be enough of a disadvantage for any class but Ohio has a 3rd grade reading guarantee: any student who does not pass their reading test at the end of the year will automatically need to repeat 3rd grade. This is a tremendous amount of pressure for kids who want so desperately to learn and yet have such limited access to educational material. So please, help get books in our room (and in their hands!) to help them reach their goal of becoming successful, fluent readers.
Your donation is tax-deductible and your donation will be matched if you use code SPARK.
This is so frustrating! If they have a 3rd grade reading guarantee, the state should fund school and classroom libraries, you know, so kids can actually read! Time to lobby your state's legislature for education funding!
Good luck in your donors choose project! I hope you get what you need for your kids!

It is incredibly frustrating -- and heartbreaking. The kids keep asking if the new books are here yet so they can have more choices. They really want to learn and yet they aren't given what they need. And we're talking about kids with the saddest home lives I've ever heard. Kasich thinks teachers are lazy -- fine, whatever -- but look at who they're really hurting when they cut funding.
Anyway, thanks. Even if it doesn't get fully funded, a lot of people have offered to donate books so they are getting more books, at least!
Also, on the last day of your SPARK code, tell me what is left and it will get funded.
Omg. I have seriously been overwhelmed with people who want to help. I didn't realize so many people would want to help or be willing to donate money, books, or resources. Faith in humanity is being restored.

If everyone uses the SPARK code, you only need $54! You're almost there!
You have inspired me! I just did a donors choose project and submitted it tonight! I requested donations for leveled collections of fiction and nonfiction books. I don't have enough books for my kids who are below grade level. So thanks!

Whoa, 8 hours and it is already fully funded. I was not expecting that at all. Thank you everyone who donated and helped by sharing. I wasn't even sure it would get funded at all so I'm really excited.

I think I am going to try and get 6 kindles for my room. I already bought 6 so if I get funding for 6 more then I will have enough for half my class at one time. That means free e-books, audiobooks, using the internet for research, vocab apps, math apps ... They're only $50 each so hopefully it will get funded.
I just feel so weird about asking for donations. I need to get over that because people obviously want to help.

My DD's class uses this app on their class iPads. It has unlimited ebooks, it's free for educators, and you can make up to 36 profiles, so it's personalized for each kid. Looks like it works on kindle. www.getepic.com/educators
