How do you get rid of fruit flies? We've had them hanging around for a while and then last night I opened my pantry and a flood of nasty fruit flies came out. My potatoes had totally rotted in them. I cleaned it up, threw out the potatoes and today the fruit flies are still every where. I am disgusted. Help!
I cannot remember the exact measurements, but a bowl of water with vinegar and dish soap helps. They are attracted to the vinegar, but the suds of the soap prevent them from getting out. We had 5 or 6 in our kitchen last year and those suckers were driving me crazy. They were all in the bowl with 30 minutes. I was amazed it worked.

Take a small glass (or glasses) and put a drop of dish soap in the bottom. Fill about halfway with apple cider vinegar and set them out where you see the flies. Change it out every 2-3 days. We get them every summer and these traps really work.

Put some apple cider vinegar or a little wine in a glass or bowl. Add a few drops of dish soap and a chunk of ripe fruit (I've used a strawberry). Cover the glass with plastic wrap and poke tiny holes in the top. Lets them get in but makes it hard to get out.
I did the vinegar with a few drops of dish soap last night. Now one fly was dead in it this morning. They were sitting in the counter next to the bowl though. Grrrr.

This is what worked best for me this summer.
This. I usually use a squirt of ketchup instead of fruit. Make sure to do the plastic wrap.

This is the method I've used. It works. It goes without saying that you have to remove and wash remnants of any soft or rotten fruit.
