We are meeting my parents in NYC before we head to Europe, but they have a super long layover and we probably will too. Christmas Eve in JFK with carry on luggage. Is there ANYWHERE in NY that we could store our bags for 6 hours so we can walk around the city and get our legs some exercise before getting back on a plane?
I really don't want to spend all of Christmas Eve in JFK with annoyed travelers and my smoker mom.
With a six hour layover, I wouldn't try to get into the city. JFK isn't close enough to midtown, especially taking into account traffic (or public transit delays) and long security lines. I think you'd have way too little time to make it worth it. Sorry

Ours will probably be about 6 hours, my parents have like 12.

In that case, your parents are allowed to leave the airport but you aren't! I'm not kidding. On a good day, I'd allow at least an hour to get from midtown to JFK and vice versa. Sometimes it takes a half an hour, but sometimes it can take an hour and a half (or more) and you never know what you're signing up for. On Christmas Eve, you're more likely than normal to be signing up for bad, bad news. Add in long security lines and an international flight, and unless you're planning on making a several hour trek to spend 15 minutes at Macy's (on a particularly bad day to be at Macy's), you aren't going to get to do what you want to do and it could backfire terribly. I'd just figure out what the very best lounge at JFK is and buy a day pass -- and let your parents venture into the city without you if they want to.

Unfortunately agree with everyone, 6 hours is pushing it on a good day and Xmas eve will be a nightmare. I agree it's worth looking at lounge options so you can relax a bit before your long flight.

I'm cool with hanging out in lounges and we have the priority pass, so that's not an issue. I just don't think my parents would be able to sit all day at the airport.
