We gave a white gold cross necklace to our niece, but we're her godparents. It seemed like most other people who came just brought the same sort of toys/clothes you might see at a birthday or baby shower. Cute stuff.
FWIW, we're Protestant but not terribly religious. I always feel like these things could vary a lot depending on denomination and culture, region, or family tradition.
We received TONS of books (mostly religious-themed), picture frames, a small cross and a few CDs with kid friendly music.
I don't know that I necessarily preferred one gift over another, but I am sentimental, so the little cross and some of the other small gifts will go in his memory box and I'm sure we'll have them forever. The kids like to page through the books, so we use those everyday...they just probably won't endure like the more sentimental gifts b/c of wear and tear.
along with a religious book and such, my baby niece is getting a pink tutu from my husband and I for her baptism this weekend (she is very cute and her mommy's best friend is a dance teacher-this child needs the tutu )
Haha. We are atheists so I joked with DH we should buy him a book on evolution....I don't think they'd find it so funny.
I'm not comfortable giving a religious gift when we are obviously not religious so I guess it might just be money. I think they already have a piggy bank. If you give $ how much would you give?
