So she basically made a ton of money online as a model, and now plans on making a ton of money online as an anti-model. How brave she is. And super inspiring.

While I know this seems obvious to those of us who are old and crotchety mature and wise, I think it is less obvious to the under-20 crowd who has grown up surrounded by social media in a way we never were. Given all the pressure on young women to look perfect, I am glad she is speaking up, even if there is some self-interest involved.

And I think there is a lot of naivete surrounding the amount of money some people are paid to promote certain products. When you learn that the top fashion blogger is making millions a year, well, it becomes more clear that what they're wearing and promoting may not just be due to them liking those things best.

Agree. She's 18 and had some kind of realization about the world. Not the first to have one and not the last, but at least she seems (for the moment) to be acting on it (with however much naivete she still has).
I'm sure it's a bit different for those who are growing up where social media photographs and videos are the norm and even expected and everyone on the internet looks like a model, than it was for many of us who didn't have that kind of 24/7 onslaught of visual propaganda.
This probably won't be of much interest to anyone older, but those in her age group might benefit from more people admitting that their life isn't a magazine spread.
I think there is also a lot of value to hearing a thin, beautiful model tell you that being a thin, beautiful model didn't make her intrinsically happy.

I don't know - it's kind of like rich people saying "money doesn't make you happy!" First of all, nobody believes it and second, everybody would still like to give it a try. It doesn't really make me feel any better about not being rich or make me want to be rich any less.
You know what, though? Her message is good for the girls her age. They really think this stuff is real. They really think this is what it's supposed to be. Good for her for trying to do *some*thing.

I don't care so much about the happiness aspect because I feel you on that part. But it's the "I took 100 shots to get this one" and the "I didn't eat all day before this photo" part that I am glad she is sharing. These photos are all staged to look so effortless, so it's good to see someone be honest about how much effort they take!

I agree. While I myself am old and crotchety mature and wise, I know a lot of young women who need to see this.
