Jon Stewart is coming back!
HBO just announced that Jon Stewart will be creating digital, streaming, content for HBO NOW and HBO GO—for at least four years!
In his first project for HBO under the new deal, Stewart will view current events through his unique prism. Working with the pioneering cloud graphics company OTOY Inc., he is developing new technology that will allow him to produce timely short-form digital content, which will be refreshed on HBO NOW multiple times throughout the day. Additional projects will be announced as they are confirmed.
“Jon Stewart led a revolution that changed the face of TV comedy on the ‘Daily Show,’” said Lombardo. “He graced our network nearly 20 years ago, so we’re thrilled to welcome back his immense talents in this next chapter of his career.”
And if you don't believe that and want to feel like you're getting your breaking entertainment news from the mid-1990s, here's Variety!
Stewart has said in recent interviews that he does not miss anchoring the nightly faux newscast. But the biz has been awaiting his next move.
“Appearing on television 22 minutes a night clearly broke me. I’m pretty sure I can produce a few minutes of content every now and again,” Stewart said.
A little Jon Stewart is better than no Jon Stewart. I wonder if, with Donald Trump running around, Stewart has filled up thousands of journals with jokes and has nowhere to put them?
Yes you can. It's called something else. Maybe HBO now?
HBO also made a deal with Bill Simmons who used to be at ESPN and developed Grantland, so I'm excited to see what they are doing with him and his team too (I think they are picking up some of his old staff/writers for whatever he is doing for them). He does a lot of pop culture and sports.
