I can't wait to see who he chose. I'm very curious about the environment minister will be.
I wouldn't be shocked to see Stephane Dion be given that post again. He has had that role in the past and was quite well regarded in it and even did some Environment stuff with the UN, I believe.
I also think this cabinet will be much more racially diverse than in the past.
That's what I'm thinking too, but I know that in BC there is a huge push to try and get him to sway more towards Elizabeth May, being the only Green Party elected.

Yeah, that was a nice idea, but completely unrealistic. As an article by CBC noted, the cabinet acts as "Yes Men" for the PM. What if Elizabeth May was Environment Minister and then legislation came forward on something that would have negative environmental repercussions, like the Keystone Pipeline? Elizabeth May wouldn't have been able to say anything. She would have to betray her own party's principles to be in the Cabinet. Much better for her to remain on the outside and be able to be outspoken.
I agree completely, I think that a lot of people here will be upset when he doesn't choose her. I guess I'm more curious on everyone else's reaction to him not choosing her, then who he actually chooses, lol.
The Canadian Dream: Arriving in Canada as a refugee from Afghanistan and going on to become a Cabinet Minister at the age of 30. Fuck, she's 3 years younger than me. What am I doing with my life?
I love it, LOVE IT.
And yes, my newly elected MP in my area is younger than me. I kind of wanted to cry.

I'm sorry Jenny for liking almost everything you posted. And yay for more "it's Trudeau" memes.
The fact that people have been complaining on Facebook about a gender quota oisses me off because of the diversity requirements for area and language. Plus, you know, the climate change denial by the minister of the environment.
Canada's resident PM Hottie is being officially sworn in today. Harper officially resigned a few minutes ago (WOOOHOOOOO!!!!!!) and the Cabinet will be announced soon.
The big news for this cabinet is that Trudeau has pledged that 50% of the cabinet will be women.
For non-Canadians - the Cabinet makes up the inner circle of government, and each Cabinet Minister holds a portfolio - Defense, Finance, Foreign Policy, Health, Aboriginal Affairs, Fisheries and Oceans, Agriculture, etc. Our Ministers are elected MPs and are selected by the PM to be in cabinet. The cabinet typically strives for representation across regional lines, as well as a mix of Anglophone and Francophone. This year, it will also be gender-balanced.
Thanks to Borgen*, I now have some knowledge of how a Parliamentary system is set up. Otherwise I'd be completely in the weeds with regards to how it works. I'll be interested to see if he's able to keep to the 50/50 promise.
*a political drama set in Denmark - highly recommend if you can get your hands on it
Not impressed with the choice for Minister of Ag, BUT, I'll accept it now that there's a Minister of Science who's an actual scientist!
Is there a particular reason you are anti-MacAuley? There had to be a PEI MP, and he has the most experience (including Cabinet experience) plus he used to be a farmer, so I wasn't surprised by this.
wasn't he involved in some scandal and had to resign his cabinet post before?

She's my MP and even I thought this idea was nice in principle, but totally impractical. It would never have happened, and I'm okay with that.
A FB friend from university SHARED, not just "Liked" 26 posts from various media outlets about this today. I went and counted.
I now remember why I have hidden her in the past.
She clearly needs a forum like this, because 26 reshares on FB in the span of 12 hours is too much, regardless of the occasion. People can find CBC if they need to.
@vicmo, I feel like you're turning him into "the Royal's" with all the photos lol. Next thing you know his face will be on dinner plates like Princess Di.
Honestly, I wasn't sold on Trudeau for a long time, even when I voted. I just really didn't want the Conservatives back in power. But every single thing he has done since taking winning the election has been convinced he is going to be amazing. I see so much of his father in him but NONE of the arrogance and that is lovely (fine, apparently he might not be as intellectually brilliant, whatever)...I think every move he is making is a somewhat intentional kick at the Conservatives, to prove to them, and the populace, that it can be done another way.
