"HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Southside Place Police are looking for a man who allegedly had sex with a 12-year-old girl while inside a CVS store.
The attack happened at about 2pm on October 16, according to Detective Michael Kelly. He says surveillance video from the CVS at Bellaire and Stella Link shows a man in his 20s briefly walk inside the store, and then leave. Minutes later, the 12-year-old victim entered the store following her mother and grandmother. Police say the girl went off by herself. The man entered again and quickly approached the girl. "They went off into a corner and there were times when he was not fully clothed," said Kelly.
Kelly tells Eyewitness News the man coaxed the girl then into the women's restroom where they allegedly had sex. "She was not necessarily all that unwilling, but at the age of 12 it doesn't matter," said Kelly.
In Texas, you don't have the right to consent to sex until age 17.
CVS customers say this is the first they've heard of the attack. "I think it's morally reprehensible and inexcusable," said customer Susan Gallagher.
CVS spokesperson Michael DeAngelis said, "The safety of our customers is our highest priority and we are fully cooperating with the police in their investigation."
Police describe the man as white, in his mid to late 20's with a goatee, and a distinct hairline. The girl reported that he had hairy arms with tattoos and specks of what could have been paint on his clothing.
If you recognize this person of interest, police would like to hear from you. You can reach Southside place police at 713-668-2341."
Here, let me help you. The word you are looking for is rape. HTH.
""She was not necessarily all that unwilling, but at the age of 12 it doesn't matter," said Kelly."

Spoiler alert if you go read comments on Facebook or wherever, dumb people are making this about Prop 1. Because allowing a trans woman to go pee in the correct bathroom is totally the same as a grown man committing sexual assault in the women's bathroom?

The wording of this is driving me bonkers. This man did not allegedly have sex with her. He allegedly RAPED her. A man in his 20s "having sex" with a 12-year-old is RAPING her.

I was cringing the whole time I was reading it and replacing the phrase "had sex with" with "rape" in my head, the same why I would if someone was telling a story and mispronouncing an obvious word or name.
Kelly tells Eyewitness News the man coaxed the girl then into the women's restroom where they allegedly had sex. "She was not necessarily all that unwilling, but at the age of 12 it doesn't matter," said Kelly.

What is this even supposed to mean?
I'm guessing they are saying that he didn't pin her down and forcibly penetrate her but instead literally charmed the pants off of her. But it doesn't matter at her age, and it's really not a statement that's appropriate to make to the media this early in the investigation. It's too close to victim-blaming and mitigating the assailant's responsibility. I would hope a detective would know better.

And I hate to break it to these people, but men who want to hang out in women's bathrooms don't have to dress up as women to do so covertly. My sister and I came out of a movie and walked into the crowded women's bathroom. My sister walked towards an open stall at the end of the line of stalls, stopped, then walked away with her eyes wide whispering, "There's a MAN in that stall! Just standing there!" Then the guy walked out shrugging like, "Oops!" I grabbed the manager, who was right outside of the bathroom, and said to her, "That man was just hiding in the women's bathroom!" She just went, "Hmmm..." And then the guy walked off!

There is a real misunderstanding with certain members of law enforcement and the public about how the brains of adolescents work. They are not small adults. They don't have the same ability to reason and think through consequences. There is a reason why there is an age of consent and why we don't trust 12 year olds to decide whether they should have sex.

That it wasn't violent. You have to have a black eye for it to be rape.

While I hate that this happened to this girl and do not mean to lessen the importance of that, this played right into the hands of the people fearing Bathroom rapes under Prop 1.
There was so much ignorance on FB last night it was ridiculous. I was so grateful it wasn't on MY thread, but it was in fact on friend's threads (friends of friends who are bigots and disgusting with their comments).
eta - this really happened:
"LN": I am being discriminated against by this law! Single, white, female is no longer being protected by this country. Everyone lacks morals and traditional family values. It's disgusting.
Yes of course I asked how she was being discriminated against. And also what does being white have to do with anything. Someone else asked her to define traditional family values. She was clearly an idiot, but I had to read that ridiculousness.

This. Plus, the detective has no idea what the guy may have said to her or threatened her with. Just because it appeared willing (seriously, wtf) doesn't mean that it was.

Yeah, for some reason people act as if the sign on the door creates some kind of invisible force field. There is nothing preventing a man who wants to go into the ladies room from doing just that.
