I don't know. I do know only a few bodies (near where they think the bomb detonated) showed scorching. The majority did not. I don't know what happens when a plane breaks apart at that altitude, but I don't think it's instant death....

After I posted that, I fell down an internet rabbit hole and ended up reading things about the Lockerbie bombing that I really, really wish I could un-know.

I just gagged reading your response. I simply can't imagine it without feeling like I want to cry.
I was listening to NPR today and they said it was likely brought on the plane, if it was a bomb, and to not jump to conclusions yet. I guess they got the black box, but the voice recorder was not working or didn't have info to recover or something. So they have the plane information, but not the pilot's discussion on the incident.
If it is a bomb, I just hate the vulnerability that this marks and the hundreds of families that are mourning.
