What are you doing for Thanksgiving? Any fun traditions you are looking forward to....other than stuffing your face? Of course, we can also talk about stuffing your face since stuffing is the most amazing side dish on the planet.
Mmmm I can't wait for Thanksgiving! We switch off families every year and this year it's my side. We go to my cousin's house. So worth the long drive.. he makes like 4 different kinds of turkey (regular roasted, fried, brine, whatever he decides that year) and all delicious food. He's an amazing cook, he learned from my grandpa I'm ridiculously excited for E's first Thanksgiving. It will be fun because he can eat the food! I just wish I had Fri off so we didn't have to drive all the way back that night.

Thanksgiving is my FAVORITE holiday!
This year we're spending it with DH's family. There is a little bit of drama....in the past, MIL always hosted. Then last year, SIL #1 hosted. We weren't there, but from what we heard things went well. So she was going to host again this year. Now, I guess there is some concern that her place isn't big enough to host everyone plus the extra people (us and another couple). So SIL #2 might host because she has a house vs SIL #1's TH. We are staying out of it, obviously we will just go wherever it is, but poor SIL #1, she gets the short end of the stick a lot it seems. I really can't imagine that 4 extra people will be THAT big of a deal.
We've only done TG with DH's family once before, it was good but I am so used to the way my family does it/how we do it so it's a little weird, but still good. My family is very small and just does mainly traditional foods and theirs doesn't necessarily (more of a mix, probably because there are so many more people) I will be making my apple pie and broccoli cheese casserole as my contributions.
I love Thanksgiving! We always celebrate with my family. This year my sister is hosting. On Thanksgiving morning we get dressed up and go downtown to see the Christmas windows at Macys. Then we go to one of the fancy hotels to get coffee and breakfast and see their Christmas decorations. I look forward to it every year.
We will drive to see my H's parents either after the game on Friday or on Saturday morning and spend the weekend with them.

suzv - your thanksgiving morning sounds awesome. can i join? haha
We are staying home this year and my inlaws are coming to visit/meet R. I made reservations at a restaurant on the water that does a nice Thanksgiving buffet because I wasn't cooking this year. We have already had planning drama, but I'm staying out of it! H's family. H's drama to deal with.
This makes me excited for the holidays. We spend Thanksgiving with H's family. It's honestly not that fun and is soo loud, but it gets them out of the way to do Christmas with my family. Haha.
Not sure what I'm making yet, but I hate stuffing. Ick.
We have H's extended family Thanksgiving on the 21st. Then on Thanksgiving we normally do H's parents' house for lunch and my family for dinner. So basically we eat all day long.
I usually make pumpkin roll and mac and cheese to take.
I really hate stuffing, lol. I actually dislike a lot of Thanksgiving side dishes because I don't like creamy stuff. MIL makes green beans with toasted almond slices that is super yummy. But my favourite part of the meal is always mashed potatoes.
Canadian Thanksgiving is over, we spent Sunday at the ILs' and Monday with my family. We had it at our house this year, because my parents are doing even more renovations. I made apple cake, squash, and cherry pie.
American Thanksgiving is always fun, because my grandma and aunt always come up. Since I don't have school anymore, I'll be able to hang out with them on Thursday and Friday while my parents work and my brother is at school. We usually celebrate on the Friday night or Saturday.

Um...I'm afraid we may need to have a "talk." I mean, I could eat the stuff in a bowl...by itself.
katiek Not you too??!! I'm questioning humanity! LOL You guys just haven't had My Mom's/My stuffing!
My mom makes non-traditional stuffing with ground beef and the organ meats and bread. But I've also had many different versions of the normal bready kind. Either way, it's just meatloaf/soggy bread stuffed up a bird's butt.

See mine is like a cornbread of sorts....OMG. I need some now.

This year we're going to spend it w/my parents, but we'll go out to dinner. We've made reservations at 3 places in case while we decide which one and the just cancel the other 2 in plenty of time.
We alternate Thanksgiving with my family and H's family. We are with H's family this year which is great because they are local and we don't have to travel. All my Jersey girls can relate to the horror of having to drive on the NJ Turnpike during Thanksgiving travel season.
I love gravy. It's silly because it's not really a food, but I load it all over my plate and devour everything.

I couldn't have said this better myself. Even the all bread and veggies versions repulse me on texture alone.
Going to DH's cousin's house. DH is in charge of the turkey (it's pretty amazing) and I am bringing a cranberry salad. It's also around DH's birthday, so we often have birthday cake for dessert. MIL makes an excellent dressing, so I'm looking forward to that.
No big traditions, we just go wherever it works best that year.
We're going to keep it very low-key and stay home this year, just the two of us with the dog. My dad has to work on Thanksgiving, so we'll see my parents a few days before. My ILs are going to Florida that week, so we will visit them beforehand too.
We won't have turkey, but I'm thinking maybe ham or chicken, along with stuffing, mashed potatoes, butternut squash, corn, and cheesecake .

We go to my parent's house every year. We stay from Wed night through Sunday. All my aunts, uncles, and cousins come too. We are big deer hunters and since Thanksgiving is in the middle of shotgun season it works well. I have always loved having everyone around all weekend. It made me feel like we were closer as a family.
AND I found gluten free stuffing mix at Aldi yesterday so I super pumped.
Between our families, we have 6-7 local-ish (within an hour and a half drive of our house) Thanksgiving get-togethers we're expected to be at. We never make it to all of them on the actual Thanksgiving Day, so we usually spend the rest of the weekend finding our way to the groups we missed on Thursday.
Maybe we'll just stay home this year. "Unpacking."
I work 7a-7p on Thanksgiving as usual. My mom is making a late dinner so I can enjoy a nice dinner. I believe my supervisor is also bringing us lunch that day too.
Mmm I love stuffing! Well, my mom's stuffing anyway. It's made in a baking dish and not up the birds butt lol. So it gets kinda crispy on top. Omg so good.
Anyhow, we go out to dinner- have for the last few years. It's nice because no one has to spend the day stuck in the kitchen and no one has to clean up!
This year I found out that our zoo is free on thanksgiving so we are taking C there in the morning and then going out to dinner in the afternoon. I hope to make this a tradition.
DH's parents just left on a big trip and won't be back till April, and my parents don't live here and are going to FL to see my grandmother anyway. So it'll just be the 3 of us and very low key. We've talked about doing Boston Market takeout, or making very few dishes - like maybe 3-4 total and skipping the turkey since that's our least favorite part.
We are doing a Friendsgiving the Saturday after so that will be our fancier meal, I'm sure.
