I like them for canned goods-tomato sauce, black beans, etc, butter, cheese, milk, nuts, baking supplies, they have good prices on produce but it's not always the freshest.
I find the produce is pretty much ready to eat, which tends to work out well, but don't plan on letting it sit around for 5 days first.
Canned and baking supplies are great deals, raisins, nuts, crackers (I like their variety pack of crackers), Frozen fruit, butter, milk and eggs.
Honestly, I do 95% of my shopping there these days. I'm picky about meat and they don't carry my coffee, but overall, I can find everything there. Sometimes they have seasonal items and only carry them for a month or so and then you'll see it again but it's fun to get something different now and then.

All the organic produce. It's so cheap. I've been getting 2lb bags of grapes for $3, 3lb bags of apples for $4.25 and baby carrots for $1. I agree that it's definitely ready to eat but I end up making produce runs three times a week anyway since it's pretty much all my kids eat so it never goes bad before it's eaten.
They have great prices on milk, bagged cheese, and yogurt. Gluten free crackers are good. They have whole wheat waffles for $1.25--great for quick kid breakfasts on the go. They don't use dyes, artificial colors or flavors in any of their processed foods so they're not the worst choice.
If you read the wiki article on Aldi sud & nord in Germany, they aren't actually owned by the same company. But, there are some very similar products, so maybe the brothers that own them have overlap.
I shop sporadically there but know people who do major shopping there. Definitely wander through. Little name brand. Some great deals & special/seasonal stuff.

I shop there about once a month. I buy a lot of my pantry stuff there, mostly snacks (like cheese its, pretzels, tortilla chips, granola bars, etc.). It's actually great for shopping for a big gathering/party if you don't mind serving non name brand. But warning, some of them do not taste like name brand. For example, I like their doritos knock-offs, but they don't really taste like doritos. I don't like their chex mix knock off.
I also like their frozen stuff. Their orange chicken isn't as good as TJ's though.
My FAVORITE item from there is their chicken parm. tenders. They are breaded RAW chicken tenders, but my kids love them and I feel better about serving those than I do chicken nuggets for some reason (don't know what the horse nugget comment was about, but we don't like the taste of their chicken nuggets).

I do about half my shopping there. I have had good experience with the meat but I was nervous to try it. The frozen ground turkey for 1.69 lb is great.
The produce is definitely use soon but it's rarely limp or icky and the prices are fantastic.
I love their organic dairy, snack foods like chips and crackers, frozen foods are pretty solid. Their cheeses and cured meats are good too.

Interesting. There was a news article a few years ago about Aldi buying Tj's
I like Aldi. I split my shopping mainly between there and Costco. I buy canned goods, some produce, yogurt (DHs fav), milk, snacks, etc. We like the top sirloin. Please don't judge, the flavor is wonderful.their pork chops and ground turkey are also great. I stay away from the ground beef. My experiences were not so tasty.

I think I remember someone (auroraloo maybe?) saying not to buy meat there

I don't remember who, but I think there were a few folks that frowned upon Aldi altogether.
I like Aldi too but I always forget a stupid quarter for the cart. I either find amazing stuff or nothing. The have good snacks and usually good produce here. Last year that had this awesome cheesecake thing that was cheesecake bottom, apple pie top. I wish I would have bought tins because I've never seen it again. Sooo yummy.
I'm an Aldi hater. My dad was an old-fashioned butcher (worked at a co-op, cut and hung the meat in the store, not shipped in pre-packaged), and his whole family was grocery. My uncle is a big-wig with Nash Finch. They all hate Aldi/Trader Joe's because of business practices. THey all used to ship their meat and produce in from Singapore.
I've only been in one Aldi's before (in college) and it was a pretty nasty store. I'll never forget it smelled like fish scales. Haven't gone back, but I'm weird with food brands anyway so even if I found a nice clean one I probably wouldn't change my mind.
We have several nearby and none are gross. The newest is the nicest but the older ones have been updated. But before it was updated it was a bit dingy.
I like Aldi's but i don't shop there much as its just not that convenient. Its a bit out of the way and time-consuming. I also can't get an entire grocery trip done so i still would have to stop at my normal store. I also always forget my bags and have also been without a quarter for a cart which was annoying. Plus I hate having to bag everything on that counter thing and selection is meh.
That said, I will swing in on occasion at one near my work if i only need a couple items. I have gotten their dried fruits as a great price, and if i have a bake sake at school, you can't beat some of their baking prices. Snacks are good, Granola bars, nilla wafers, Pringle etc. But like i said, it rare for me to go
I can't hate my $42 grocery bill this week though....
That's just impossible to do unless you feed them junk. Sucks you don't love your kids enough to shop at a real grocery store and buy them fruit not in season.
The city and location they're building it in is a really affluent area so I would guess at least while it's new it will probably be a nice store.
(Non-mom who saw on latest) We have two stores in our area. The one 15-20 mins farther from me is in a much nicer area, & the store is SO much better! I only go 1x every month or two, but always go to the furthest store, as it makes a huge difference in my Aldi experience

I'm going with sarcasm here.....right?

Lol yep. I thought you had been around long enough to get the backstory. Quesyrah summed it well. Haha.
My grocery budget is up to $90! My youngest is killing me with her iron supplement. Of course she couldn't tolerate the one my insurance covered for $3/month. Lol
