We've had the testing happen during a thunderstorm before, weird but it happens. I'd say if the clouds don't seem to be rotating it's nothing. But then again here we hear sirens and go outside so... lol.

As a kid my dad always made us go, as an adult I am a little less strict. I only go when there is questionable weather. That is if the kids are sleeping, if they're awake then we just go down because it's no big deal then

I live in Fort Worth. I think we had some tornadoes this afternoon. The roof of a huge building got ripped off, saw it on the news. Don't wake a sleeping baby! Lol. I've been through 2 tornadoes and you usually can tell it's about to go down. The last time we were eating dinner on our covered porch and we had green clouds just swirling in the sky above us. The tornado touched down a half mile away at a grocery store. We are usually the idiots outside watching it
Aside from testing, the sirens don't go off here unless there is a tornado indicated on radar or spotted on the ground. I'm both into social media and a bit of weather geek so I follow the wx hashtags for wherever I am, such as #txwx. Storm chasers and meteorologists tend to hang there, so when I'm not sure from my phone, it's the first thing I check.
