We don't go to CEC, but not out of principle...it just hasn't come up yet...
Yes CEC is crazy...the park, the museum, the bounce house place, roller skating rink....all can be crazy. The games are fun, you win a dinky prize...it's fine for kids to learn that. It's a great place to practice taking turns...to each their own...but personally I'd rather endure an afternoon at CEC than an overnight camping outside :0P
She sounds like a lot of fun *eyeroll* I loved CEC when I was a kid and wouldn't think twice to take ds there. He's been to a party there and liked it. Most kid type places are wild and crazy and germy. I think she missed the memo that's what childhood is about
No, I think that's way over the top. That said, my kids have never been because they've never been invited to a party there and it would never occur to me to go there otherwise. They've played arcade games down the shore and do plenty of other fun things.

OMG this is ridiculous. My kids LOVE Chuck E Cheese. We go every now and then as a surprise treat if Daddy's home on a weekday, it's never crowded, and if you go between meal times it's some very cheap entertainment for kids. You don't need to buy food to play! $10 worth of tokens will keep all three of them going until it's time to leave. Ours is well-lit and clean, and it's not big enough to really "lose" a kid.
I do try to keep our visits to weekdays as it's more fun when it's not super busy, but for a birthday party I wouldn't have a problem with it.

2 of my kids have had a their birthday party there. They have beer at ours. Kids have a blast so being there for 2 hours every now and than doesn't kill me.
Her first paragraph about signing away her life as a martyr should have clued me in that this would be absolutely ridiculous. We have never been to CEC because it's never come up. We do go to a local arcade so it's a similar premise.
I agree it is over stimulation station. I agree it is a germy mess. I agree it's easy to lose a kid there. All of these things can be said about a trip to Walmart. Does she think all the other kids' parties she attends at bounce houses or play gyms are some how void of these germs?
The gambling addict analogy is down right stupid. I can't even see that line of thought beyond the blinking lights.
I really hate CEC. I got pink eye from it (at my kid's party) I said never again would we go.
But, DS was invited to a party there this weekend and I will take him. He really likes the kid and is so excited to go. Sometimes you have to suck it up for your kid.
That said, I'm trying to pawn him off on a neighbor so I don't actually have to go, but if that doesn't happen I'll suck it up and go.

I'm cracking up over the comparison to Walmart. So true.

I like CEC. When the twins were born I took DD there for some fun time and it was awesome. Clean, not crowded. We go there frequently, and she just had her 7th bday party there. I haven't lost a kid there yet!

That really is over the top. I can't imagine saying no to a kid's party because I don't like the venue. That's beyond ridiculous. I'm not into video games, nor are my kids, so it's not somewhere I would think to take them just because, but this level of hate should be reserved for bigots denying people equal rights, not a party place most kids like.

I agree. So much passion over a non-issue. Of course, we fought over fruit snacks here.
My parents used to take us to CEC every year for our birthday! They had like a mass birthday night back then where the animals popped out and sang to everyone. SO MUCH FUN. Also, best ball pit.
It's Amazing I'm a functioning normal adult 33, huh?
H just said to me earlier "Tomorrow after errands we should take the kids to X for lunch (think local smaller scale but same concept CEC). Burn some energy, have some fun with them.
So I'm obviously not opposed.
We took DD for her 1st birthday.....lol mainly because H and my BIL wanted to go be kids. We all had the time of our lives in fact.
WE don't have one close to us. But the closEST one has had ALL KINDS OF CRAZY ISSUES with adults drinking and getting into fights!!! I don't know what's happened lately, but they were on a bad run for a while there. So...in light of that, maybe we wouldn't go...but it won't come up anyway b/c it's too far.

Hi dairy!
This woman just listed 6 reasons CEC is for kids not adults.
Exactly, Rora. No adult in their right mind goes to chuck e cheese for a good time. If her list of reasons is my threshold of where to take my kids, I guess we're never leaving the house again
I used to work at cec, and while we rarely had problems, we had a plain clothes security officer there every weekend night and we did have to call the cops for parents fighting on more than one occasion.
