My DH was recognized from the boards. The lady was all, "Don't I know you from somewhere?" and they played 20 questions until he said, "Well, my wife is active on the Nest..." Bingo! LOL! She was so embarrassed. It was someone that I didn't know very well, just the screen name.

I don't get why it is creepy, but a fellow GBCN that i Had never met IRL approached me IRL because she recognized me. I didn't think it was crazy, I was just impressed by her ability to remember what people look like lol. AN ability I do not have.
I work in the same dept as another poster. I won't out her as she keeps a lower profile. But we both got new jobs at the same time and figured out we were going to be coworkers lol.

I don't think I'd feel too weirded out but.. I'm sort of obvious. I'm no Lucy or Tamb but I still expect to be recognized. If you spot me out and about, I'm probably going to notice you staring with that "that's her pink hair, right? She has all those snowflake tattoos and pink hair but.. maybe not? Maybe?" vibe. Lol. It'd be less weird if you said hi and made yourself known, even if you were a weird past-poster-now-lurker.
I'd be weirded out that someone I didn't know approached me and told me that they knew me/were watching me. I wouldn't go all PRIVATE BOARD!! over it, though. Every so often something like this happens and it reminds me of why rarely post photos.
I think if I wasn't a very active poster, it would throw me a little. But active posters? Nah. You can lurk for like two hours and know who Tamb is, or who I am, or who mofongo or KOKO or toledo are.
I'm embarrassed how much it initially bothered me that I wasn't mentioned here. LOL.
I am always worried about running into @this when I am in sweats, no make up and picking up pizza. LOL. I feel like she would come back here and be all - SHE IS AN OOTD SCAMMER. DON'T BELIEVE HER LIES.

I think about this all the time. I went to a restaurant in your area last week and I was getting ready and was all, "Oh wait, that area? Better go the extra mile and put on some eyeliner. Wouldn't want Laz to report back that I'm a slob."
LOL
Except I have no idea what you look like! Rebel Wilson? Lol.

I always picture her as Rebel, and read the posts in an Aussie accent.

i have it on good authority that at least one of those "guests" is part of the witch hunting team from my last church.

i'd take being recognized by a gbcner over being "found" any day. that was horrible
ETA: there is still discussion going on about how "unbecoming" my language was here and how my use of the f-word should disqualify me from ministry/working with kids/interaction with humanity

I have run into sugarbear on two separate occasions when I was looking like a hobo. I was like "Hi! So good to see you! Usually I shower!"
I only remember the time at the bouncy houses. I thought you looked lovely!
I have been recognized six times by strangers because of The Knot (at weddings no less) and numerous times from my old blog (while eating, of course). My former co-workers were really amused by the latter.
But this was years ago.
If I don't get a creepy vibe from the person, it's not creepy.

This is really weird. I try to stay as incognito as possible. In reality I could probably be picked from a line up from some of the old knot/nest/bump days. I am friends with several oldies on FB. There has to be a link somewhere. If you post on the internet you are bound to be figured out at some point.

Fuck those people. Pathetic that they have nothing better to do with their time. I feel intense fremdschämen that they're choosing to focus on all the wrong things. Their actions expose them for the small minded assholes that they are - that's what is truly unbecoming.

I have a friend who occasionally lurks. She recognized my kids and told me. I knew she was on the bump/nest so I wasn't that surprised. It's not like I'm a well known poster so I was more surprised she even noticed me.
Wasn't there an ML or MM regular that left the boards because someone recognized her and said something? I want to say it was at a sandwich shop that she worked at? That was this board or MM I can't remember.

I think it's circumstantial. This poster in particular made it a point to say you don't know what creeps are watching and made reference to sexualizing an innocent picture of a kid, and then pops up in person three years later, saying, "I've been watching," lol. I know it seems naive, but I do think we're aware of our visibility. Maybe just stay a creep though, and don't come have ice cream with my family on a Sunday in the park. I think that's the strange issue.

Wait, so is the reason she was "run off the boards" because she said that some pervs could sexualize a picture of a kid? And the kid was undressed-ish? Because that just seems like common sense.
No, the child wasn't undressed. It was a normal picture, two siblings reading. The offending poster said that it made her uncomfortable because it felt sexual to her, or could be perceived sexually, when it wasn't. It was inappropriate commentary about a normal picture, because the little girl was wearing a skirt and seated. It was distasteful to try to turn into something it wasn't, and the person who's child it was left as a result, and she was a well liked poster. The scorned poster was saying she was giving us a PSA about predators, but that wasn't the issue. The issue was more about HER inappropriate perception of an innocent picture and how that made another parent leave. I know that any explanation will probably seem insufficient because it's second hand information, and I know how that goes, haha.
