I know this will vary a ton by location and size of home, but humor me. How much have you paid to have your air ducts cleaned and how many square feet is your home?
We did it last year after having our basement finished. It was pretty pricey. I've heard that most of the groupon deals are total scams and don't really do anything, so we had it done with a local company and it was probably about $400 for 2700sq ft.
We had ours done before we moved in last year after we renovated. It was between $150-$200. Our house is around 1500 sq ft.
When we bought this house the vents were caked with dust and dirt and when we took the vents off you could see that the ducts had a thick disgusting layer of filth. It was so gross. Duct cleaning was much needed and well worth it.

What company did you use? I think you're in Colorado, right?
DS seems to be fairly sensitive and he's been stuffed up for weeks now. Our house is 65 years old and the furnace is in the crawlspace surrounded by dust. I'm thinking all of that is probably not doing him any favors. I've never done it before, but I think it might help him out.

yep, we used Jake's carpet cleaning (they do both). They get amazing reviews from everyone in our neighborhood and the guys who came were so nice and professional.
I have but I rent, the landlord paid for it. I don't know how much it cost.
The previous tenant ripped the humidifier off the furnace so dust was getting sucked in and coming through the vents. We were all getting sick and DS has asthma. Everyone improved after the duct cleaning.
We plan to buy a house in the spring and I plan to do it there soon after moving in.
I remember doing some research on it a while back and there is a lot of conflicting information out there. Some sites say you should do it, some say it isn't necessary, some say it can make allergies much worse (because it stirs up a bunch of dust. I opted to ignore the potential problem.

We haven't cleaned them but we did replace them this last summer. I was disgusted when I saw the inside of the old tubing compared to a new tube. I plan on having them cleaned annually now. It was bad.

We used a groupon just for kicks. It was like $50. I think this is one of those things that you get what you pay for. I'd go with a big company like Sears.
