Sorry to hear that, poor guy! I found out I was allergic to penicillin with the same reaction to amoxicillin. I was prescribed a different antibiotic and it cleared up quickly.
Aw, I am sorry! DD had the same reaction when she was 18 months or so. She needed a steroid to clear up the hives so that was super fun. She is also allergic to Keflex, FYI. It has a small amount of amoxicillin in it. A few months ago DD was given that for strep throat and broke out in hives after two doses. Luckily the reaction was mild so it went away on its own.

Well shit this is what DD is on right now and she is allergic to amoxicillin too. Thanks for posting this.
Sorry too short that sucks poor little guy. Hope he is feeling better.

Hopefully your daughter doesn't have a reaction! The amount of amoxicillin in Keflex is very small--like 5%. The chances of a reaction are very slim but they are. I'm guessing my daughter must be very, very allergic to amoxicillin to have reacted.
@tooshort, you might want to ask for a steroid. Are you giving Benadryl at all? Start there if you are not.

DS1 took an antibiotic with a penicillin warning on it and he was fine. Just make sure you have benadryl on hand just in case.
Has the rash started to clear up? If it gets worse go have him seen. DS has a reaction that started minor and turned pretty severe. His face, hands and feet were all swollen. It took two different steroids before it cleared up. Probably two weeks total.
HIs reaction was with amox too, but our doctor told us to avoid all penicillin. Even bleu cheese and to be careful with strawberries b/c they can contain a mold that is similar.
