How necessary is the 6 month check? I hate the ENT office and never want to deal with them again. DS does have a cold and some ear drainage, does that indicate an infection? This is the first time he's been sick with tubes in.
Ear drainage usually indicates an infection, in my experience. I could be wrong, though.
I found the 6-month to be helpful because after the 2nd set of tubes DD2 had some build up on one of the tubes and the ENT was able to flush the ear and clear it out. He said it likely would have led to an ear infection knowing DD's history. It was a good, preventative measure.

Yes, ear drainage means infection. I would definitely want to follow up because the ear tubes can become clogged or dislodged and you want to make sure they are still in place.
Thanks, I'll keep the appointment. The front desk people at the office are the worst!! I think I'm going to say something to the doctor after my interaction with them today.

7costanza I would actually ask to speak w the practice administrator. They are the ones that can really make a change happen if people are being rude.
Haven't done the 6 month check....just did our 3 month check. I feel it is good to stay in contact w ent in case problems arise. My ent gave us a refillable rx for ear drops which we are to do if we see any drainage.
