We are considering adding a wine cooler to our butler's pantry in the home we are building. I haven't the slightest idea what we should look for in one. I should say we are not wine experts, we mostly drink cheap wine and just need a place to keep it cold! We don't want anything fancy, just one that is reasonably priced.

We have a wine fridge we got from Lowe's. The two things that were important to us were to have 2 different temperatures (one for white and one for red) and to have wooden shelves instead of wire.
We have a random one from lowes with two zones. It fit in the space which was our main issue. Needed to be skinny. 24 bottles. Costco had one on the holiday special ad this morning.
Another one who thought Bartles & James was being discussed here!
Do they still make them?
Last weekend we were telling "The first time I got drunk" stories and I had to explain to a mixed non-American audience what they are. I'm not sure if they ever existed outside of North America, and trust me when I say they are difficult to explain!

They do! I happened to walk past them at Walgreens.

We opted for a beer fridge over a wine one. It has shelves, some with wine dividers, but two with regular shelves. We like it because we can easily adjust the temp, use it for all kinds of drinks for parties, not just wine, and even extra food, if need be. It is just a lot more useful than a dedicated wine fridge for people who don't need to keep expensive bottles of wine at good temps for preservation. We got ours at Brandsmart. It is similar to the link below, but has a solid door and front temp controls. It was about $500.
