We're eating at the ILs around 2pm. We live about 15 minutes away. I'm in charge of stuffing/dressing and brussels sprouts. I was planning to roast the brussels sprouts and obviously the stuffing needs to be in the oven too. Do you think if I cook them at home, it will stay warm enough on the drive over there? But then, I don't want to show up just before eating. So, do I cook them both there in her oven while the turkey is resting? But she might have plans for warming things up. Or do I cook them ahead and just warm up in her oven? I feel like it won't taste as good that way.
Hmmm... How do you all usually deal with this type of thing?
Oh, but my real question was will it taste good warmed up? I feel like both these things are best fresh out of the oven... I'm sure I can cook ahead and warm up but do I want too? Especially the brussels sprouts.. I want them to stay crispy.
I would just call and ask her. Say, my two dishes need to go in the oven when the turkey comes out. Will you have room in the oven for that, or would it be better if I bake them at home before we come and just re-heat them at your place?

Call and ask her plans but I'm guessing she'll want things at least prepared. I know would freak if someone brought ingredients to my house. A crockpot works well for stuffing. While brussels sprouts don't take long to roast, it's a lot to ask for the oven at a high temp since most people want it low/moderate from reheating while the bird rests.
You can probably re-heat there. Also keep in mind you can't take it out of the oven and immediate into the car. What would you put it in to transport it? It would be incredibly hot.
Maybe she has two ovens or something and would have room for you to cook it there.
I would def pre make the stuffing and then throw it in at her house to crisp it up, maybe she has a convection toaster and you can pop it in there? For the Brussel sprouts I would probably prep but not cook until her house because those taste better fresh out of the oven. I'm assuming her oven will be hot and you could just pop it in too.

This is always my issue when offering what to bring for holidays. It's such a catch-22...you want to help by bringing something so they don't have to make it, but needing to heat/cook something there so it tastes good can be a hassle (my mil's kitchen is always INSANE on thanksgiving, no room to even put a dish let along heat it up or even put in the fridge). Call and ask what the host prefers, and I think everyone will understand if it's cooked at home, reheated, and doesn't taste as great as fresh out of the oven.
It's your inlaws, so it's not that big of a deal to warm up there if they have room. If not, you can use a crock pot to keep them warm, chaffing dishes, etc. It won't stay as crisp, but they'll be warm.
