I am trying to figure out what kind of pattern and which style I want. I know I want flat black, but I dont know if I want the baskets, ribbon, twists, etc. I really want to keep it simple and dont want the scrolls for sure. Would it be boring NOT to do any of the bigger ones like the baskets? Just the twists?
Have you looked at pictures of model homes? I know several communities here (i.e David Weekley) have stairs with more simple designs and those look nice. I prefer simple myself.

i have looked at a lot of images on google....i think I might go super simple so I don't get tired of the design.
maybe something as simple as: regular baluster (no design or twists), regular, single twist, and then repeat? Or instead of the single twist, do a basket or something else

Our new build has straight wrought iron with a "knuckle" every other one. When we placed the order, we asked them to leave off the knuckles, which they didn't, so we are leaving it. I think it looks really nice as far as wrought iron goes (my preference was wood, but I know you're getting away from that).

Yea, in looking at the site you linked...I like the more simple ones with a simple small design scattered in...I think the super decorative ones are too much unless you live in a medieval mansion or something along those lines.
I know you don't want scrolls, but here's what we did a few years ago. I really liked the knuckles/baskets, but I wanted a design of some kind to make it unique but not over the top. I also looked at geometric designs in the middle. I like the simple repetition that it provides.
