I can still hear her voice in my head from watching old her old PBS segments. She was and is, a treasure, inspiring us to make good food, engage in cheerful home-making and above all, honor our guests with gracious hospitality.
Lovely -- I sent it along to several friends who are Julia and/or food writing fans (though I'll admit that I only made it about 65% through My Life in France).
Happy Thanksgiving! Will you get to celebrate at all?
My mom never cooked a Thanksgiving meal until I was school-aged, and I remember her using Julia Child as a resource. I still use the butter & brandy basting mixture that my mom said she picked up from one of Julia's shows.

I bumped into her in the hardware store in Harvard Square once years and years ago. I still can't believe it but I asked her about cooking a turkey (I don't remember what I asked her) and she could not have been more gracious about it. She probably spoke with me for a full five minutes. It may have been before I'd ever even cooked one, so we're talking at least 30-35 years ago. I loved her.

I would have had a heart attack. Was she as giant in person as made out to be?
The Food Network, Cooking Channel etc bascially would not exisit without her.

Omigosh she was so tall. But I will never get over how gracious she was with me. I'm sure I asked the same stupid questions she'd heard a million times. She should have rolled her eyes and pushed me aside but she stood there talking to me with her whatever-she-was-buying in her hands.
