How many bibs do I need for a newborn? What about knit hats?
We never used bibs until E started drooling through his clothes and eating solids - maybe around 5 months? E was a crazy spitter but we just used prefold diapers and are still using them with R. Hats - I had 2 so one could always be dirty and one in the wash. We got one from the hospital that worked for the first couple months.
How old is your baby? I think our babies are almost the same age. We did Ferber with DS when he was 7 months old and I wish we did that earlier! How old is it "ok" to start? 5 months?
She'll be 3 months old tomorrow. Our pedi says it's okay starting at 4 months. DS1 was a colicky, non-sleeping kid and pedi suggested it at his 4 month appointment. The first day or two was really hard, but after about 4 days we were finally on a decent nap schedule (although he still cat napped until about 5.5/6 months old) and were down to just one night wake-up for a quick feeding. It worked so well that even though DS2 was a pretty decent sleeper we Ferber'ed at 4.5 months old just to ditch the swaddle and the paci. He only cried maybe 10 mins at the most on the first night. So we are just going to give it a shot again with DD.
Did you ferber or extinction? Did you unswaddle and do CIO ? Why night time and naps at the same time? I know you've told me but I forgot why did it before the 4 month wakeful...:
If you are OOT for the weekend do you stop what you are doing during the day to let your kid nap?
We are going away for the weekend to do some Christmas shopping and I am debating if we should stop in the afternoon to let DD nap or if we just hope that she has a stroller nap.
J was a terrible napper so we would just go and he would nap in the stroller or car seat or carrier. The girls are different and need their nap. So we stop and plan around their naps. They do not nap in strollers anymore, for more than a few minutes, so this isn't an option. K is a beast if she doesn't nap. She will melt down and scream for a good 30 mins to fall asleep on a night she doesn't nap.

Do babies ever just STTN without sleep training? I've made a few half hearted attempts at Ferber but we suck at letting her cry. Is there any chance she will just outgrow the wake ups and we won't have to do it? She's almost 7 months and wakes up once or twice.

We did Ferber with DS1, extinction with ds2. I guess being second time parents made us realize the checks are mainly for the parents and usually just amped them up more.
We unswaddled to do CIO. I feel like they need to be unswaddled so they can suck on their hands/thumb for self soothing or roll to their bellies, etc. Plus, if we are sleep training, then I want to get rid of as many sleep associations as I can all at once, rip the band aid off, so to speak.
Naps and nighttime at the same time just seems to make sense. The goal is to learn to fall asleep on their own and I'd rather not do two sets of sleep training if I can avoid it.
Pedi said it was okay to start at 4 months and I trust him completely. I'd rather have them learn to put themselves to sleep and sleep train before they are sitting up, crawling, pulling up in the crib, etc.
I know it probably seems harsh and a little early for some people on this board. But both the boys have been great sleepers and the crying really only lasted 3 days and was very little by the 3rd day. We got on a good routine and everyone, baby and parents, we're happier and more well rested. So it's just worked well for our family.

It doesn't seem harsh to me just different than what we did . But I am interested in sleep training ds2 sooner than we did ds1 (at about 8 months then 13 months for MOTN) so I've got lots of questions.
Ds2 is currently swaddled and sleeping in the swing. Would you transition him out of the Swing and into the PNP over the next 1.5 months and then unswaddle/ sleep train at 4 months?
I have PPD/PPA and they get worse when I'm really sleep deprived so I'm trying to think of how to make this easiest on all of us.

namasteak - we've at least got DD sleeping swaddled in the crib at night time right now. It was much easier than I thought it was going to be.
Naps are still pretty much in the swing because sometimes she'll at least fall asleep in her own in the swing if she's swaddled. And when I'm home alone with DD and two other kids during the day it's just easier to do the swing rather than a big fight to get her down in the crib.
Lots of hugs to you. It's hard dealing with sleep deprevation no matter what, but extra hard when you have a toddler/older kids to deal with all day. So to me sleep training the 2nd kid earlier makes sense becuase you've got to try to get everyone sleeping and on a decent routine just to make a larger family semi functional and happy again.
DS2's naps didn't really get longer and at a more consistent time each day until closer to 5.5-6 months old. But at least after sleep training I could just do a diaper change, story, a quick little hug/snuggle and into the crib awake. It made it easier to juggle/balance dealing with the older kid rather than the whole swaddle, bouncing, rocking until they were asleep thing.
I add the water first. I added the powder first, but then it seemed like it took up space and there wasn't enough water. And if you haven't bought one of these, (or something similar) do yourself a favor and get one:
Question: the doctor convinced me at B's 6-month check-up this morning to try CIO. How much is it going to suck? (Alternate question: how much wine do I need to drink to keep myself from running in there when he's crying his heart out?)
When you use the pitcher do you serve the formula chilled or just leave it out to make it room temp? I don't know if I could get DD to drink cold formula. She's fussy about temperature.
Get a Baby Brezza! I loved mine. It mixes the formula for you and it makes them the perfect temp.

We never did CIO or anything with C and she now STTN 95% of the time. Unfortunately it didn't start happening until she was 13 months+

Absolutely they do, but it can take longer. Not the same, but ds1 never was able to be trained. He finally STTN consistently around 15 months.

Thanks, @vicmo and turtlegirl. I'll track down the Ferber book. We sort of tried it last night, and it wasn't awful. He woke up a few times, but mostly went back to sleep after a few minutes. Then he was up for about 30 minutes around 3 am, and I caved when he worked himself up to hysterical levels because I just couldn't take it. (Baby sobs on the monitor are SO MUCH WORSE somehow.) But I just popped the pacifier in his mouth, rubbed his back for a minute then left. Then he slept until 7:45; I guess he tuckered himself out with all that crying.
