Have one you love? Have one you hate that we should steer clear of?
The Bosch that was installed when we bought the house broke and will take $600 ish to repair. We don't love it, so it seems like a better idea to just buy a new one. My parents swear by Miele, but I am not sure it is worth the price.
All of our kitchen appliances are Frigidaire, and the dishwasher came with the house. I believe it was brand-new when we bought the house in 2011, and it's the first dishwasher either of us has ever had.
Good, not great. Some days it cleans everything perfectly, but other days I'll find film and grime on the things on the top shelf, specifically the glassware and bowls. Lately it's been halting in the middle of a cycle and flashing an error message, which requires opening the door slightly and then shutting it again.
Again, this is my very first experience with a dishwasher so I don't know whether it's user error (wrong kind of soap? overloading the unit?) or just a crappy machine. It's not enough of an issue where we've talked about getting a new one, anyway.

I was going to say that I'm not loving my Bosch. I heard it was irritating to load and thought that I'd just deal with it, but...yeah, it's irritating to load.
We just put in a Bosch and while it initially was a pain to figure out how to load it, I'm very happy with it. But my basis for comparison was a 20 year old dishwasher that sounded like it was about to take off, and required that I rewash half the dishes after a cycle.
SO's mom has a Miele and while it is very quiet, it doesn't hold a lot of dishes. They were just washing dishes 2, so it wasn't a problem for them. I do know it is a fairly new dishwasher (maybe 3 years?)and she has had someone come out a fiz it at least twice though.
We have a Bosch with the third rack for silverware and cooking utensils and absolutely love it. We have monster dishes from PB and they fit wonderfully. I took a full place setting with us when shopping to see what they fit in the best. Maybe give that approach a try? I found it really helpful because we ruled out 90% immediately.
When we bought the house last year, all appliances were in terrible condition except the dishwasher, so we left the seller's dishwasher in and agreed to replace when it died. However, shortly after move-in, DH's aunt offered the (little-used) dishwasher above to us for free, so we jumped. I love it. It's hard to know if it's because this is the first time I have ever lived with a dishwasher though. But it does what it needs to do and does it well. I am sure more $$$ dishwashers are quieter, etc. but ours doesn't seem noisy to me. Washing dishes can take a while but we put it on when we aren't rushing for plates and whatever. No issues with unclean items.
Ours is a GE Profile that came with our house. It's quiet, but doesn't always get our dishes very clean, and has already broken once (it's less than 6 months old). It was under warranty, but took over a month to get fixed because the part was backordered and the repair company missed at least one appointment with us (maybe more, I've kind of blocked out the whole experience). We've actually had several issues with multiple (NEW) GE Profile appliances, and their customer service in getting them fixed under warranty has been atrocious. So in general, I would not recommend them.
I WOULD recommend you pay attention to the decible ratings if you have an open-plan kitchen and often use the space while the dishwasher is running. If you run it before bed and sleep in a different part of the house, it's not as big a deal. But still something to pay attention to, especially for those times when you're trying to run a load while people are watching TV in an adjacent room.
Whatever you do, don't get the Samsung with the waterwall technology. We bought that last year and it broke after one cycle. Then Samsung gave us the runaround about getting it repaired so we ended up just returning it and getting a Bosch.
If you can afford it, get a Miele. They are the best and most of our friends have them and swear by them.
We couldn't afford one when we replaced ours a few years ago and ended up with a Kitchen Aid. We are very Hally with it, it's quiet and we have had no issues.
We have an upper end Kitchen Aid that has been great. We've had it prob 7 years. Haven't had any issues with it at all. It is quiet and looks good. My only complaint is that some of the edges of the racks are showing a bit of rust, but in the grand scheme of things I can deal with that.
We have a bosch and love it. Wish the third rack was available when we purchased a few years ago
This third rack is great.
When I chose the Bosch, it was a toss up between 2 models and I chose the one with the recessed handle. I figured I would be running my hip into the one that stuck out.
We also took our plates with us and needed to get the model with the adjustable upper rack. The previous dishwasher didn't fit the plates.
Same. But i'm really not loving that yours needs repairs. How many years did you get out of it? I will be angry if i spent this much on a dw that doesn't last.
This was the winner! We liked the kitchen aid, but one was too big and the other had a handle we didn't like. We also got complemented on bringing our own dishes and they fit perfectly.
