So when do we get to have a national conversation about radical Christianity?
Do we know the murderer has any Christian affiliation, though?
ETA: I will be glad to have that conversation and make that callout! Just when there's evidence.
Why wait? They make symptoms about brown people.
You know I don't really mean that, but I think it's important to point out hypocrisy.
Plus, I haven't yet heard of a non evangelical violent act at a clinic. Sure, it child be for any number of reasons, and I'm really curious to find out. But it's only because he's white we may get to
Still not a single word from any of the R candidates about the shooting. No thoughts and prayers for the families of the victims, not even the police officer killed.
His name and age has been released. It seems some have done some Googling and found out where he's from and that he has a record but most are only reporting his name and age.
In my search, I saw two LifeNews articles...one titled Officer Killed in PP Shooting was Pro-life and another Hillary Clinton Exploits CO Springs Shooting. :eye roll:

Thanks. I just found it as well. I was still surprised we didn't have it last night, unless I missed it last night. Anyway, glad the terrorist has a name at least.

They will be banging the mental illness drum. I don't see how else they could respond, save for actually acknowledging their own culpability for inciting a terrorist attack.
I've never seen a better illustration & example of the hypocrisy of the GOP and the pro-life movement.
Again, all of the "all lives matter" and "guns are awesome" and "police are the best" sentiments collide into one big mess that you can't neatly defend in one coherent position.
It's a very sad day when women can't have access to basic healthcare in teh US without fearing for their lives & we emphasize the sanctity of SHOPPING on black friday over the targeting of women by a domestic terrorist. We've spent years demonizing women, women's access to healthcare, planned parenthood, and even abortions (without the discussion about the ultimate, ugly necessity of them) so I"m not at all surprised that we ended up in this scenario & most of America remains silent.

I'm curious as to how all these cops got injured & 1 killed. I don't think they walked blindly into this & I"m sure they were prepared when they showed up. What is "long gun" - I kept hearing refernce to that. Is it like a sniper gun? I did hear the 1 cop that was killed was a University of Colorado campus cop?? So maybe he wasn't as well trained?
And again- WTF was this guy doing if his target was PP? Did he get inside & realize he couldn't get to any of the staff/patients? Then get backed int a corner by cops so he started shooting them?

Are you looking for something other than "someone was shooting at them"?
well, usually they are so careful & cautious in these situations- it will be interesting to hear more of the details about everything. Hopefully all the rest of the injuries (besides the fatality) were very minor & all their protocols and tactics actually worked to keep deaths/injuries to a minimum.
Why are people reporting "we still don't know if PP is the target." Since when is the place the shooting takes place not the target?
I think what they mean is 1) they want evidence he was targeting for abortion reasons and 2) there was a lot of conflicting info about where the shooting started (like did he flee another site into the PP). Even the PP director at the site stated she didn't know if PP was the target.
eta: here was the PP director's statement while it was happening. FUCK YES.
"We don't yet know the full circumstances and motives behind this criminal action, and we don't yet know if Planned Parenthood was in fact the target of this attack," Vicki Cowart, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains, said in a written statement. "We share the concerns of many Americans that extremists are creating a poisonous environment that feeds domestic terrorism in this country. We will never back away from providing care in a safe, supportive environment that millions of people rely on and trust."

There is also an article at NYT site about a man stumbling into one of the stores there who had been shot while walking somewhere between PP and the store. To be fair, if the shooter was shooting at random around the PP, he could have had no target and just wanted to shoot people, or he could have been targeting anti-choice protestors.
However, it's not a huge leap to assume at this point he was targeting PP, its staff and/or its patients. The fact that it's not a huge leap and is the first thing that pops into our heads should give this country pause (but it won't).

Yes, this is the article. It is oddly touching (like veterans from Iraq and VietNam brought together in these weird circumstances),
I am trying to be patient with the fact that we know nothing about the people who were inside the clinic / what they were dealing with / what happened. I am assuming some of it is to protect patient privacy?

I also wonder about the fact that all staff and patients survived. If PP was the target, it seems odd to me that while he was in there, he didn't kill everyone inside. I assume the two civilians killed were bystanders outside the PP then.
Still, it's not like it's any better that he wasn't some anti-choice nut targeting PP and just went on a random shooting spree and killed three innocent people instead.

The NYT article is good...
I'm side-eying the necessity of this, however:
"...at one point ramming a BearCat armored vehicle into the Planned Parenthood building and rescuing some of the people inside."
And this is just fucking sad:
"...and noted that Ms. Schilter had witnessed a different shooting a few weeks earlier when a heavily armed man shot and killed a bicyclist and two women in the downtown. “The first time she cried,” said Mr. Ricker, looking at his dry-eyed girlfriend. “She’s a veteran now.”

Yes, weird.
I mentioned pages back that the PP where I work has a tiny lobby with a receptionist behind bulletproof glass and then the doors to the medical facility are big, metal locked doors. The inside is also just a sort of maze of rooms and there are big (medical-grade?) doors between all of them, too. Someone would have a hard time getting access to people if their setup is like ours.

Also, I can't help but feel some type of way about the lack of information about this asshole. It's almost like the media is actually walking on eggshells for once before saying anything about this guy. Any other shooter, they'd be combing through his social media accounts, prior records, talking to family members and friends, etc. They would be calling him a thug, terrorist, etc. already. A white guy shooting up the area around a women's health clinic makes us shrug our shoulders about the shooter and why he did what he did.
I know it's possible this guy could be quasi-off the grid, but I'm side-eyeing the coverage for now.

My local PP also has the bulletproof glass entryway and you have to be buzzed in through it. Inside it is set up like any other medical office, though. So if a shooter gained entry it wouldn't be difficult to access staff and patients.

It's true. We knew about Trayvon's suspensions and Mike Brown's weed post-haste.

If the guy is off the grid I'd expect at least that to be reported.

Right? I was watching this story like a mofo last night. The "mainstream" sources had nothing on him except age and where he lived. The source that told me about his prior arrests was something like heavy.com. Wtf is that source? The media wasn't touching him. Liberal media my ass.

They may not actually know that though. If he doesn't have any social media accounts or anything he may not have much of an online presence at all, and if he was a loner, there may not be much to get from friends, family, neighbors.
I'm plenty willing to criticize the coverage but it may be that they just don't have much info on him yet.
