@justdairy did they go into labor during the day? Or how did you know the cows were in labor?
We get done milking and with general cow chores at about 830pm. H (or one of my employees) checks cows for any signs of labor (all of the cows with near due dates are in the same barn. Someone then checks again at midnight.
It's also like human labor. There are signs a few days before we notice and keep tabs on.

We don't really use the glider in DD's room anymore, and we don't have the room to keep it, but I'm having a hard time thinking about getting rid of it.
In a fit of self-destructiveness, I stayed up until after 1 am watching tv, then got out my kindle. Why didn't I just go to bed before 11:00 when H did?
Well, this is unfortunate. I am sitting in the fitting room at Macy's nursing DS and he just massively spit-up all over the place. I have spit-up dripping down my leg into my boot and our shirts are soaked. I had hoped to to get some Christmas shopping done while DD is at MDO this morning, but instead it looks like I'll be running home to change both of us into clean, dry clothes. Sigh.

Now I am super annoyed. I was going to take LO to the Christmas market this afternoon and grab dinner there but she was such a beast when she got up from her nap. It was like 30 minutes of crying and not helping to get ready. So finally I was like fuck this but now I am annoyed because I wanted to go and now how to make something for dinner.
How do you guys decide when to give up a fun activity when they are in a middle of a tantrum?
How many? How much assistance do they need? Do they go into labor naturally or do you induce somehow?
2. One heifer (girl) one bull (boy).
The level of assistance is dependent upon the age of the cow, how many calves they've had prior, whether or not it's twins and a whole lot of whatever Mother Nature decided...lol. Some have calves totally on their own like nothing ever happened, some need some twisting and pulling assistance from H. A few need a vet. These two were easy. One all on its own, the other need to be pulled by H (we have a contraption for that. Not dangerous or painful. It just puts the head the right direction so the calf slides out easier). H was tired so I helped him feed the newborns and got water/vitamins to the cow.
99% of ours go into labor naturally. Cows do on the greatest majority of farms. Like once a year we have one that needs an induction (which they do with meds, similar to ones they give humans) because of hip structure or hormone imbalances or plain old nature. It's not common here though.
@justdairy I've been around the boards (TB and GBCN) for about 3 years now and have never met another dairy farmer. I grew up on a dairy farm in MN and was a princess kay finalist. My husband is a crop farmer but I spend the majority of my time advocating about dairy on a few different sites and a group called CommonGround. Just thought I'd let you know it's great to read your stories!
We have relatives visiting who have a kid the same age as DD (13.5 months). He is way more advanced than her - saying tons of words, running, following directions, etc. He even knows to cover his mouth when he coughs! I know that DD is totally on track developmentally but it's soooo hard not to compare.
I took a 45 min nap before my hair appointment and feel so much better. I was up at 4 to pee and never got back to sleep. My hair looks good and feels so so much better. Maybe i will actually do something with it other than pull it back now.
Now I'm sitting in the parking lot at preschool. Good morning so far!
I'm wearing non-maternity leggings today. My cranberry Matty M ones with a grey sweater tunic. Really cute if I'm being honest. BUT I feel like I'm wearing spanx because the waistband of these are a liiiiiiitle snug on my belly. I guess it could be worse and they could not fit at all?!
Are these the new patterned ones? I bought the grayish ones but I am a little scared of patterned leggings.

That's awesome! We're few and far between on here but there a couple who work in ag. I'll send you a PM in a minute. I know all about CommonGround. So awesome.
DD ransacked the handful of toys that are on the advent calendar this morning. I'm not sure how to punish her. Do I take it away or not let her open any more toys? We made it one night!!!! And the rest of the week is 'experiences' so she won't be opening anything but it was all stuff we were excited to do with her.
How old is she? DS ransacked his too. But he's almost 2. I just confiscated the toys and taped it back together the best I could.
It's Christmas. It's fun. Little fingers get excited. I don't know if I'd punish for that. I'd just keep trying again. Maybe rotate the toys/experiences so she forgets about what she saw?
And put the advent calendar on top of the fridge where she can't reach it. DS thinks that's a far worse form of torture than anything else I could have dreamed up!
She turns 3 next month. I think I'm struggling because I know she's excited about it but she also knows what she is or isn't supposed to touch. She's also been trying me a lot lately with disobedience. I put it away and will see if she even notices it. I'm sure it's basically torture for her!
Just running around today prepping for our long weekend that starts tomorrow. We are going to a Christmas Market in Germany. DH is getting in from a business trip tonight at 11pm and we leave tomorrow at noon, so I am packing everyone. DD and I come back from Germany Sunday and DH continues on for a 10 day business trip, hold me.

I struggled with what to do with DS over it, so I hear you. I just figured he's 2. He knows but excitement wins. Hell, I've been known to hack my own advent calendar for the chocolate..lol. I have so many bigger battles to fight with this age right now that if I just put it out of his reach it's an easy "punishment" and one less thing to will over.

Seriously! I should have gotten myself an advent calendar of chocolate, that sounds amazing!!

There are 3 advent calendars in this house. A chocolate one my mom bought H and I. And 1 for each of the kids (they're a farm animal a day calendar and I wasn't having fighting).
It's overkill and we're having fun. And now that one has been hacked...we're still having fun!
Not sure if it's beginner's luck or another Spectra success story but I just got my first 4 ounce pump that wasn't to replace a feeding on my first time using the Spectra, and only 15 minutes after I finished nursing. The dud in particular responded well to it. Normally I struggle to get an ounce from her and she gave 1.75! Woo! I really hope this continues because that would be a major stressor lifted.
(@pnkybrwstr since I bought the pump from her)
Ooh, this really makes me want to try a Spectra.... I was lucky to get 3 ounces (combined) when replacing a feeding on my Ameda.
I have $15 in Kohls cash but can't find anything I want or need. I'd buy a purse but it's online only and there's no free shipping code right now. I guess I'll have to actually go into a store later this week.
Starting to go a little stir crazy from constant breastfeeding from the same damn spot on the couch. I don't have anywhere I actually need to go, and will just spend needless money if I walk around Target or the mall... So I'm begging DH to tag along while he goes to Lowes. This is my life, lol
This is what I'm scared of with a winter maternity leave. When I had C in July if I got stir crazy I could go for a walk (or easily throw the kid in the car to go to Target again). This won't be so easy in January in MN!
I'm just thankful DS is still going to daycare. If we were ALL stuck in the house for days, he'd go nuts.
Thankfully, I can start to drive again on Friday, so I will definitely leave the house. Even if it's just to grab a coffee or something. These four walls are closing in!

We tried to take Christmas card pictures of DD this morning. I'm so late doing it and I really want to take advantage of TinyPrints 50% off. But DD was not cooperative and the few of her half-smiling are kinda blurry. Sigh. We'll try again over the weekend.

It's possible my coworker just overheard my phone session with my therapist at lunch time. I can't usually hear her when her door is closed, so I'm hoping it's true in reverse.
