Not sure what word to use in this situation, but my job will be no longer as of the 31st. I'm pretty upset and disappointed. I knew it was a possibility that the new CEO wouldn't want to deal with a remote/virtual employee, but it sucks to hear the words "You're no longer needed here".
To add insult to injury, she decided to throw in how it will be so nice for me to be in a season of staying home with two kids and she hopes this transition will make it easier on me to adjust to "so many big changes coming my way". That is when I got mad. Lady, that is MY choice, not yours. You don't get to choose whether or not I belong at home and whether or not I will like it. I was working because I loved what I did, not because I felt obligated to neglect my children for the few measly dollars I get paid.
I know I'm overreacting and she meant well, but it was gross of her to insert herself into a personal decision and make a professional decision sound like an sexist, emotional one. (I know the real reasons are legit because the Board decided to eliminate the position, and they don't know I'm pregnant).
Obviously interviewing for jobs while pregnant sucks, so I have to decide what to do now. I like working and don't want it to disappear, but part time positions in my field are hard to come by.
Question, what word is correct to describe what is happening? The CEO said they are eliminating my position entirely because the organization's needs have changed.

Laid off/elimination of position is what I would put on the termination paperwork.
I am so sorry. I hope that you can find something that works for you. She was very callous.
Laid off is probably the best term. Fired is usually based on something you've done or not done and your position isn't being eliminated.
I'm sorry and what a weird thing to say. I guess she was trying to put a positive spin on it but it was totally the wrong thing to say. I hope you're able to find something else soon if that's the route you decide to go!
Also, I just have to say that the comments she made were so completely inappropriate. Was this someone in the HR department or your manager? Those comments should 100% be reported to HR so that the person who said them can be coached on how inappropriate they were.

She's the CEO. My manager wasn't even on the call. I was told my manager would follow up with me regarding final project turnover. There is no HR. It's a small non profit with a history of using their beliefs to be unprofessional. This isn't the first of such remarks, and the Board wouldn't care a bit if I were to tell them.
Wow, I'm really sorry for losing your job and the way it was handled. That was very inappropriate and unprofessional of her to say to the least. I hope you find something soon (and even better) if that's the decision you decide to go with.
Do you think you'll try to look immediately or just wait til after what would have been ML? Would you have received ML at this job? I'm sorry...this is really horrible timing for you guys

I would not have received maternity leave. My remaining vacation will be paid out and that's all I would have had anyway. I was planning to keep working, Actually, with no time off. Lol. March is the slowest month with only 5 hours per week so I didn't even think it was worth taking off. So nothing lost there.
I'll look casually now, but unless there is something amazing, after talking to traveling I decided I won't push myself to interview until after baby so that I don't need any special time off alotments.

That is.... insane. And a discrimination lawsuit waiting to happen. I'm so sorry!
I'm so sorry. To me it sounds pretty discriminatory. Do you feel like she was targeting you because you are PG?
No, I really don't. I told my husband a few months ago I'd be surprised if they kept my position past contract renewal. I just think she was trying to put a positive spin on it but didn't realize how it wouldn't be appreciated as intended.
