H came home last night and it went about as well as I could have hoped for. He seems a little awkward around her, but is definetly trying.
She responds better to him on walks and kind of seems to get that she needs to bond with him too. She's started following him around the house a little bit last night, so everyone is making an effort.
H agreess she's the calmest dog ever, so that's good. And he even spent an hour online looking at names for her. Its all baby steps and I hope one day he loves her as much as I do, but I know we'll get there at some point.
I'm glad it went fairly well. It sounds like he's really making an effort to be involved, so that's a good sign! I'm sure it's just a matter of time before he's head over heels for her as well!
When H and I first got Augi, H was jealous because he was really only bonding with me, since I was home with him all day. We figured out that if H took over some of the responsibility when he got home (taking him out, holding the leash on walks, feeding him dinner, etc), it really helped. Dogs will bond with those who take care of them, and that should help with some of the awkwardness.
I'm so happy your little family now includes the long-awaited dog!
