I love this and needed to read it. We are inundated with so much garbage and he continues to be a bright light of humanity. I hope when his presidency ends we continue to see his influence.

I admire President Obama so much. He has likely has had one of the more vitriolic group of haters in US history, but he's consistently responded with dignity, grace, and logic. I am proud that he was our president for 8 years.
The fact that we elected him twice gives me hope despite our entertainment of FUCKING LOONS as candidates as of late.

The responses to the whole refugee series on HONY has made me feel better about Americans. There have been some great responses for job offers, invites to dinner, offers to help know the new towns. We need to focus on the positive and HONY has done such an amazing job bringing these people together.
I hadn't seen the original posts from this man; this post made me go look for them. His story is beyond heartbreaking. I don't know how people can hear stories like his and not have compassion. I think the answer is probably that many Americans do not seek out (and probably actively avoid) hearing the stories because they are happening to someone else. Someone who is "other."
I saw this. This story, for whatever reason, wrecked me. I read it and read the last post in the evening and I started crying on the couch and had a hard time stopping.
I LOVED it. Naive question-- Is Obama actually writing those himself? Or some staff member who casually mentions it and gets the go-ahead?
Most likely he saw the post (or yes a staffer saw it and showed him) and he told his press team to put something together and post it after he gave them the go ahead.
