I saw this on Fb today. When I was a kid I had a canopy bed and I strung my chains of these things across so I could look up at them from the bed. I had many, prob 6-7 necklaces worth. Too bad they are long long gone. I'd love to see my collection again.
Oh my god, I loved those things. I had so many of those charms. That was one of my favorite things as a kid. I hung mine on my backpack though. I don't remember wearing it as a necklace. I had lots of charms with bells, so I was probably super annoying.
eta - and duh, it looks like they all had bells. Yup, those had to be so annoying...

I never wore mine as a necklace either. Even as a 10 year old I knew that was tacky jewelry. But I still loved the collecting aspect of them, which is why I just displayed them in my room.
It was an unending game to collect. Because for example the bicycle charm didn't just come in one color. You could buy/trade for a green bike and a red one and a purple one etc etc.
They definitely were cheaper though. Two dollars per charm would add up too fast!
I had the toilet and a kitchen sink. I did wear mine as a bracelet. I wore a few charms on it and kept the rest in my school bag. I know I had dozens, but I remember the kitchen sink because I was often asked if I had everything but the kitchen sink and of course I would show my sink.
I still have mine. The chain is pink and one of the charms is an umbrella that doubles as a little ball point pen. I let my 6 year old have it and it was promptly broken.
